So why are you here posting about it? If it is truly meaningless, then by your own logic your posting here is less than meaningless. For if it was meaningless, you wouldn't bother to respond. Thus, by posting you are saying that does have some meaning to, at least, you.

I see "Carl of Melrose" has over 26,000 posts... all by himself?! Is this a REAL number? Does this person have no life and spends 12 hours a day just posting crap to RF.com? ONE person on your site has nearly 1/5 the posts of this ENTIRE forum?

Something is amiss there.

Either way, it's clear your numbers are meaningless.

And this is why condemnation of Rider Nation by Lions fans is truly meaningless.

1/5 the posts? Go back to grade 4 math, pass the class this time, then we'll talk. Carl's posts account for 2.7% of the posts on that forum.
Work on your reading comprehension first - Carl's 26,000 posts are approximately 1/5 of the total posts you quote for *lionbackers*. The point is that the comparative number between the two sites is meaningless if ONE person on one site is posting 1/5 the amount of total posts *on another site.*

LFITQ wrote:If there are more Rider fans, then why is it that "the more" seems to be taken negatively by the rest of CFL fans?
Are these rhetorical? I ask because again I find the answer to be somewhat obvious: it's human nature. People love to *beeotch*. Have an intense rivalry with the Riders? You will naturally pay more attention to the "bad" fans. Feel good stories on the news suck. People want dirt.
Why is it also, that those that are "more active" seem to be less able to see things without their green kool-aid or to at least take their green goggles off?
Again, what's the point of this question? This is coming from your perspective. A Lions fan, who probably thinks Perry's hit was dirty, that Wally Buono doesn't contradict himself, that the Lions don't currently have players that take more dirty penalties than any clean player should, and that Braley is a saint. No doubt there are "valid reasons" in your mind to justify such views; to the outside world it looks like orange koolaid drinking. Again, Rider fans are by far the most active on the net, therefore you see more examples of "green koolaid drinking", and you then conclude that has something to do with the Rider fan base without considering how much more active Rider fans are on the internet. If you were exposed to as many opinions of Bomber fans and Argos fans as can be found from Rider fans, you wouldn't find much to pick and choose between any fan base.
I'm sure if you took a poll as to which fans have the "most obnoxious" ones (and I'm not necessrily talking "most" as in quantity), you will probably find that it is the Riders in the eyes of the rest of the CFL.
But you can't separate the two. Non-Rider fans on the internet are exposed to the opinions of Rider fans far more than that of any other team; naturally those fans will see that fanbase as the "most obnoxious" because they have more memories of obnoxious behavior to draw from. Besides, Rider fans don't lose that poll. We win almost every poll, simply because we are online more than any other group of fan. Which is exactly my whole point.
Yet despite the lack of success the Riders have had over the years (2 Grey Cups, no home playoff game since 1988, no home playoff victory since 1976, etc. etc.), why is it that most CFL fans feel no sympathy towards them?
Most fans have no sympathy, or just most of the fans you see online? 8) The number of people who participate on CFL message boards is just a drop in the bucket. To answer your question, though, the Riders USED to be everybody's second favorite team.

Because they were harmless. The lovable losers.

The team is no longer the free space on the bingo card, and haven't been for several years now. It is very hard to love a team that has a legitimate shot to beat your team on any given day.
Look at the situation in Hamilton right now. Here you have a team that is in similar spot as the Riders have been in in the past. Perennial losers. Yet, the feeling I get from most CFL fans is one of sympathy and pity (ok except for ArgoDave but he is a specail case ;) ). Why isn't the same feeling be put on the Riders? Shouldn't we as CFL fans be embracing the fact the Riders finally got a home playoff date, and won it? There is a reason why it is only noteworthy in Riderville and the rest of the cFL just doesn't care, I wonder what that could be?
Put Hamilton in the playoffs 6 years in a row and make their games with Eastern rivals actually mean something for a change and that sentiment will change.

You have done an extremely poor job; all you've done is ask a bunch of questions that all have the same answer. I don't know if me saying that makes me an "obnoxious Rider fan" or not, but it's the truth. Rider fans are many, meaning you will be exposed to more obnoxious Rider fans than you will of any other team, and naturally that will create hard feelings.

And while you spout the numbers, there is NOT ONE thread, that is a good discussion. And quite frankly, from the garbage I've read in the threads I looked at, I'm not even sure if there's any point in starting one, as it seems the majority of activity on the RF site, is just complaining about everyone else, and/or *beeotch*/slagging/bashing other teams, and their fans. BC Lions are the most "talked about" at the moment, but it contains all of the previous sentence.

Now, if you KNOW of a thread over there, whereby it's just fans wanting to discuss/debate the pros and cons of both teams, the officiating, the facility, then please, give me a link to the thread. It's perfectly cool and fine to have some lighthearted jabs at one another's team/players, but I'm looking for people who want to talk FOOTBALL, not talk CRAP.
Well congratulations. You have taken a look at maybe a dozen or so threads out of the 46,100 threads and have Riderfans pegged to a T.
So, how many threads DOES one have to dig though before finding anything of substance?

HAHAHAHAHA

Nice retort. Can't handle LOGIC so you just dismiss it.

Now you have proven that you are truly just another troll trying to stir up trouble. Nothing else to it. Plain and simple. Exactly one of those fans that legitimate posters detest because you invariably get them painted with the same brush. The exact type of thing that wildthing and Terenicious amongst others have had to fight through to get respect.

Obviously you can't get into a battle of the wits, because you are unarmed.

Did I start this thread? Nope.

Battle of wits? Logic? You give yourself waaaaaaay too much credit. While you are off looking for who was on the grassy knoll while trying to figure out why Rider fans are "hated", I provided you with a very logical and sound reason why Rider fans may be perceived that way. Apparently it wasn't "witty enough" for such a "deep thinker." You thought your questions were all so very provocative... really, friend, they weren't. The perception some have of Rider fans simply comes from a combination of the Riders being a consistently competitive team that doesn't just roll over and die for other teams and the fact that Rider fans are everywhere.

No more, no less.

I mean, if I did what you are doing right now, I would take your smarmy tone and then assume that all Lion fans are smarmy people unable of seeing the validity of anybody else's point.

Troll? Right, and it's Riderfans.com that has the problem with labeling fans of other teams as trolls just for speaking an opinion contrary to the popular opinion on that website.

You see, Spock, the thing about logic is that it can have more than one path. True, I could be eaten inside by Soundy's wonderfully "witty" criticisms of Rider Nation. On the other hand, it could be interesting enough to comment on, but it could easily mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.

But, you are welcome to come up with six dozen rhetorical questions that your presentation of them seems to suggest there is only one possible answer to (the one you support, oddly enough), all the while ignoring the far more simple answer that's right in front of your nose.

I never criticized "Rider Nation" - I questioned the validity of riderfans.com's "post count" numbers, and YOUR assertions that they actually mean anything.

I would never presume to paint Rider Nation as a whole based on the warped perspective of a small contingent of internet geeks on a fan forum.
On the other hand, it could be interesting enough to comment on, but it could easily mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.
And yet you felt the need to bring up relative post counts (since that IS what we're referring to here) between two fan sites as some sort of meaningful indicator of the passion of fans in general of the two teams. The fact that it means EXACTLY nothing in the grand scheme of things is EXACTLY the point I've been trying to make for the past two pages.
You see, Spock, the thing about logic is that it can have more than one path.

Actually, I spent just over an hour and a half going through several pages of threads, and no, not one was a discussion of the upcoming game. I looked into many of the threads that might have suggested a discussion, but no, they were ALL full of nothing more than "hate comments". Mostly about the Lions, BC Place and Lions' fans. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't see much point in really progressing through threads that were started more than two weeks ago, as it was only just this weekend that Sask beat Calgary, and so confirmed their place in the Western Final. I did surf through many that were older than two weeks, just in case there were any speculative threads, but, again, there was nothing. No debate, no discussion, just trash-talking. That doesn't mean that all 'Rider fans on rf.com are all that way, but it would appear that the trash-talkers rule the roost.

So, once again, if you know of a thread that is a good discussion about the upcoming game, please post it here, as there will be more than me willing to come over and engage in good discussion. But even thought you seem to sound like you know every thread of the 46,000+ threads, I doubt you will find one. Unless you start it, just to say "see, there is a thread". Honestly, I would love to be able to engage in good discussion. Some lighthearted ribbing is always expected, but the main focus is great discussion from both sides.

And before you come back about the amount of trash-talking there is on lb.com, yes there is. However we do have a few threads that are good discussion, and as someone else has said (I think it was either Solar Max or LFITQ), 'Rider fans are more than welcome to come on in, and get into the debate/discussion. It's a GREAT thing, as has been said, because it gives us the view from the "other side", which makes a discussion a debate. Wicked!! Brilliant!! That's what we need more of on these boards. That's originally what these boards were put up for. Unfortunately, many people hide behind the anonymity of their log in ID, to just post crap, which ruins it, to some extent, for the rest of us. (No, this in no way is an insinuation that you are doing that).

It's because there's more of us. Especially online. Check that, Rider fans has far more ACTIVE members of online message boards. Lionbackers has 7,107 registered members to Riderfans.com's 5,328. Yet RF.com has waaaaaay more activity; 941,977 posts at RF.com to 127,530 here. Even 13thman.com doesn't compete for activity; 123,408 posts.
Speaking as the owner of both Lionbackers and 13thman .... the total amount of posts at RF, 13thman and Lionbackers means nothing unless all 3 databases were trimmed at the same time.

the total number of users online at any given time can also be scewed based on how long the admin keeps visitor sessions open (I think it's 5 mins here and 13thman so basically if someone logs in and doesn't click on anything they will show up as online for 5 mins.)
it's just a setting that can be used a number of differant ways

my observations ..... yes there are a lot of RF online, there is also a lot more lions fans online than you and others think

Whats up Lions fans.

I personally love the fact you hate us this much. From where I stand, the 2 teams that should be in the west final are there. Riders will be ready. They will be ready for the noise, natural, artificial, a combination, crickets, whatever you guys wanna throw at us. Kent has been in these situations before and knows tactics on how to deal with no audibility. He guided a Toronto offense to score over 50 points in the Big O in Montreal he can guide KJ and the Rider offense in BC Place.

This is a different team then in past years. This team can win in your park just as you guys can win in ours. They will be ready to play, if your boys aren't it will be a long day for the Leos. IT is going to be a great game. And if anyone expects a Rider team in any way resembling the ones seen in the last couple years, you are going to be sorely mistaken.

You guys very well might win this game.. But it will not be easy. It will be a nail biter. The Riders are coming, their fans will be there. You will hate us, and we relish that fact. Being hated is great. You hate our cockiness, you hate our passion, you hate the fact we have fans at every stadium in this league(especially in the west), you hate the fact we are the best fans in this league. You hate everything there is to hate and more about us and our team, our province and our people.

For that I say thank you, it makes this game that much more intense, and the rivalry that much more exciting.

Bring it on
Sunday can not come fast enough!

I agree...until the team goes in the crapper again and the avg. attendance drops to 15K a game again.
Just reality. The Lions are a good team right now. And there is a lot of interest in them. But much like Toronto...if a team isn't winning and winning often...they are often forgotten about and shuffled to the back burner. Reality in a bigger centre? I dunno maybe.

Reality in a city that has an NHL franchise. Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa (when they have a CFL team) all take a back seat to the NHL franchise. Even if they are champions, still takes a back seat to even a losing NHL team.

Lions win the GC, there's "a party at the dome".. if the Canucks ever won the Stanley Cup, the city would shut down for a day, and they'd have a ticker-tape parade.

Very weird how that works.

I think your wrong .... the rising popularity is not just due to winning, there is a solid front office these days that is running the team in a manner that fans can be proud of year round .... trust me that wasn't always the case

IMHO .... there have been more RF at regular season games than playoff games .... either way there is no hate .... i think the riders are the second best team in the league and most here want to go thru the front door on the way to the grey cup

is it game day yet? :roar: :towel:

Could be. The Lions have been there before (although granted, there was more to the problems there than just the team's performance). The Canucks went through the same thing, especially in the late 90s (the infamous "Messier years") - again, it was partly performance, but other factors were involved as well. The Whitecaps used to be a lot bigger in this town too, and are only the last few years just starting to claw their way back from obscurity.

As you say, it's probably largely a drawback of living in a "big center", where there's always something else to draw people's attention away from a flailing team. Sad but true.
