Well that was unwatchable.... so I didn't.... Swept the patio and deck..... I gave those leaves a real thrashing.... TSN was just signing off when I finished and came inside.... My timing was impeccable...

Watching the playcalling by Myksmic makes me yearn for the return of Chapdelaine. 2nd and 6 and you're throwing a 30 yard pass

There is something called a Salary Management System in the CFL which puts a cap on what a team can spend on players and coaching staff. So spending money to promote the team as a way to attract fans does not affect $$ available to spend on the team. Although winning games IS more affective than musical concerts as far as attracting and keeping fans even though $ spent on one has no affect on the other.Disturber wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 8:13 pm Ownership is to blame. Fill the stadium by hiring pre game musical acts. Spend the money on athletic talent and competent coaching. I'm so unimpressed

Here's hoping VA is OK.
I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast at any time". So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.

Been a Lions fan since '63 I don't recall such an inept performance by a Lions offense ever, the defense played well just plain worn down. I wondered why Campbell didn't challenge the 30 yard pass to Wilson and why not take the ball at the 40yard line instead after the field goal, Williams is no Grant or Alford, not that it would have made any difference to the outcome.

Btw perhaps Nathan Rourke was in VA's head, could possibly return to the Lions wouldn't think he'd be satisfied being a 3rd stringer or 4th with Atlanta.

Funny thing. I was wondering the same myself until I woke up and realized the Lions problems were not solely Vernon Adams passing but the entire approach to this game. That and the Lions can't run the football when they need to. As Jim Barker states: you have to be able to run when you want you and be able to run when you need to. Lions fail in that regard as the run schemes are basic.tak06 wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:22 pm Btw perhaps Nathan Rourke was in VA's head, could possibly return to the Lions wouldn't think he'd be satisfied being a 3rd stringer or 4th with Atlanta.
There is just not the pressure on the DEF to account for the run game and can focus on blanketing the RECs downfield.
The 3rd down onside kick by Sean W. set up for a FG was bizzarre as he had to wait for two guys to move to that side he showed he was kicking to. McInnis nearly had it it seemed but wasn't there something like over 11 minutes on the clock? More than enough time to pin them deep IF the DEF held them.
The other gamble on 3rd and 7 should have been a FG try and just get a few points.
That's two games in the book where the DEF smothered the passing attack and the Lions can't pull off plays like teams like the Bombers to get to short ydage on 2nd down.
VA's knee problems best not be serious but he simply can't be back there getting a beating.

Yes, I've also been following them since the season Willie got crushed in the Grey Cup year - I'm not sure this is THE most inept game since then - there were a lot of bad teams in the late 60s and 70s - but this just might be.tak06 wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:19 pm Been a Lions fan since '63 I don't recall such an inept performance by a Lions offense ever, the defense played well just plain worn down. This seems to be happening every season - great starts using a passing offence, gushing from the TSN crew - and then things get ugly towards the second half of the season, and inevitably we lose on frozen turf in the playoffs.
Having seen this bad movie too many times, I am starting to join those here who wonder if Rick Campbell is the problem. They STILL don't have a running threat, they couldn't adjust to the Bomber defence, and the guys just didn't seem ready to play while the Bombers steamrolled them - AGAIN!!!!!!
After a while, you just shrug and give up.

Ok, hands up those who agree that nights like this would simply be unbearable if your remote didn't have a fastforward function?!?

Unlike other coaches in the league, Campbell seldom challenges a play. Perhaps he thinks he gets bonus points for not wasting the Command Centre's time.tak06 wrote: Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:19 pm Been a Lions fan since '63 I don't recall such an inept performance by a Lions offense ever, the defense played well just plain worn down.
