There are two banners that indicate a Western Division championship. The one that is shown is the second of them that indicates 1994, 2000, and 2004. Obviously, 2006 will be added to that banner. The other West Division Championship banner is located on the other side of the scoreboard. That one shows the years 1963, 1964, 1983, 1985, and 1988.
sheesh

I forgot that div champ means went to the cup. For a minute I was thinking it was first place for reg season, sigh

That is correct, as I explained to SammyGreene in this thread:
http://lionbackers.com/cheer/viewtopic. ... 3&start=15
In the CFL, the Division Champions are recognized as the team that wins the Division Finals and advances to the Grey Cup and not the team that simply finishes first in its division in the regular season.
The confusion may arise because in other sports leagues such as the NHL, teams may put up a banner to indicate a division championship for both finishing first in their division in the regular season or for advancing past the second round of the playoffs under the previous playoff format. For example, in the 1991-92 season, the Vancouver Canucks finished first in the Smythe Division after the regular season but it was the Edmonton Oilers that advanced past the second round of the playoffs by beating Vancouver in the Smythe Division Finals. The league stated that both teams were allowed to put up a banner indicating that they were 1991-92 Smythe Division champions.

That is really small and petty.
And I agree.

Most of the roof is still connnected to the rim of the building, is it not, so must be lots of big pockets of air. It would not surprised me at all if that this had happened with the stadium full and still no fatalities.

It's not so much the roof material as oh say ... the 27 TONS of lighting and soundsystem hanging from it. You can stand under that if you want but I sure as hell don't want to.

LOL.... that's what I was thinking too.
If there is any good to come out of this is we should get a better idea of the dome's future beyond 2010 since media should be all over it for the next few days.
And if it is green lighted beyond 2010 shouldn't they be spending the $30 million on the new roof now or do they need a hole in another panel to be convinced?

Speaking of the soundsystem, this upcoming round of repair work might be a good opportunity to improve upon it (notwithstanding the money to pay for it, or the long term future of the building).

Apparently the cables now holding the roof from balnketing the seats and field, weigh 18 tons themselves.
The best news was noone was injured, and the roof will be back in place sooner than anyone could have expected. This is merely like a repair to your all season tire that has had a flat, just on a larger scale. From all reports the roof system did exactly what it was intended to do, and the structure while not built to support a heavy load, has enough to support the sunken roof, just as it was intended for.
Good job, and now we only have to worry about the teflon roof being sound on the remainder of the old portion.

Hell, I'd be tickled pink if the league moved any other western team to the East and gave them 1.5 million - just leave the Bombers in the West!
Considering that in the past when the Bombers were the sacrificial lambs moved to the east and were not compensated one red cent, I'd say that the league still owes us a Million or two. Cheque, Visa or Mastercard or cash will suffice.
Any other western teams willing to move to the East Division for the good of the league? *crickets*

What you talkin' 'bout Willis? It takes 2-1/2 hours to fly from Winnipeg to Toronto or Montreal and 3 to fly from Winnipeg to Vancouver or 2 to Edmonton or Calgary. The only thing that makes it cheaper for the Bombers to be in the West over the course of the season is the short junkets to Regina and the cheaper rooms at the Motel 6 there versus the hotels they have to use in the rest of the cities.
We likes havin' you Bomber fans bouncing back and for from east to west. That way you don't know whether you're coming or going. That's of course assuming you did know that beforehand.

It's getting run the world over, let alone in the US (see
here), but only because of BC Place's status as the site for the 2010 Olympic opening and closing ceremonies. That's how the international media initally describes the building, such as in these
Reuters and
AP wire articles; only later does the BC Place name appear, since much of the international audience isn't even aware of the building's existence. In the absence of casualties, no Olympic angle = no run.
