Got to take into account that Jones also made Carter into a DB , when he was one of the best receivers in the league. Carter seemed to take that in stride , so maybe Jones has some answering to do.

Riders injured DB Mitchell (I think that is his name) has returned, they have Marcell Young on the PR and have signed Purifoy, so Jones no longer needs Carter to play D and it looks like he feels like he doesn't want him on O.

Actually, I think it is Riders OC, MacAdoo that doesn't want Carter, because quite likely Carter's complaints about the O went beyond "Give me the ball".

Fans on Carter. I've been reading positive fan comments all year about Carter on 3DownNation (not now as Drew's out of town and shut off comments on all articles). This one is no exception.

Heard Chris Rainey on SN650 speak somewhat positively on Carter as a guy who makes plays.

Duron speaks to Sask Media. He's all positive.

He is very charismatic, Toppy.

Loads of talent. Charming. Intelligent. Speaks very well. Presents himself well.

But if you were his coach or GM, do you think you could keep him happy? Not criticizing teammates? Not being unhappy with a coach? Do you think he could change at this point? Do you think he needs to change? Do you think he sees the need to change?

Another chance? I could not make the decision to bring him in. And I wish him all the good.

Just IMO. I know he has many still believing in him, as a player in a team sport.

I've listened to the interview twice now.

Some things I heard in the interview ....

In Regina he was "trying to help out and right my image.''

Asked if he would do anything differently, he said: "You have to take a look in the mirror and see what you can do to change."

Asked what changed with the Riders for him: ''I think that was when I was on offence. When I was on defence, it was all cool.'' Fire the OC? Or release the player? When Magic Johnson did not like the head coach, Paul Westhead, owner Jerry Buss fired Westhead, but Magic was beyond huge at that time.

Does Duron need to change? Can he change?

In my experience, it is rare that people change. Once again, I wish him well.

..................

Chris Jones could get fired at year end. Would Ed Hervey bring him here? LOL Uproar. How about as just DC?

how long will Chris Jones be allowed to coast on his GC ring?
My guess is that unless they have a renaissance in the 2nd half of the season, that his days will be numbered. This is year 3 afterall and they appear to be backsliding.
If the good ship lollipop......er, Riders isn’t going in the right direction post-Labour Day weekend, the pressure on Jones could start reaching critical mass.

#BCLions will not be making an offer to Duron Carter to play this season. That said, Ed Hervey had a very positive conversation with him and wouldn’t rule out keeping the door open in future seasons. @CFLonTSN @TSN_Sports @TSN1040 @BCLionsDen @CFL

Well, according to Mike Sherman, Carter will not be suiting up for the Als.

So I wonder if any other teams will renew their interest and efforts to get Carter? I still say take a pass....

I say now he goes to Toronto. Popp signed him originally and maybe Trestman can handle him and use him well. Toronto is going nowhere and needs help and a bit of a splash.

You can't fault Carter on his exit. He's not trashing anyone.

He had an event back in Regina so he was there for that at the clothing store.

Or did he trash either the Riders or maybe a prospective new team?

I think the biggest lesson you can learn in life is that people lie... then apologize... then lie some more 🤷🏾‍♂️

The problem for ALL players let go like and Jerome Messam is no exception is that people without direct knowledge immediately connect past dots and draw conclusions from events that in Messam's case were in his university and early years in BC and assess that the team must have been right as they know better than we do.

CFL players have little to no power and I side with the players that they need to get a fairer share of the pie as some of the lower paid players aren't getting what they should be given the risk to life, limb and brains!

Chris Jones is a brilliant DEF coach but his overall decisions are suspect including bringing in one of my former favourite QBs Zach Collaros. As much as I like the guy his signing while letting Kevin Glenn go was insanity. Both his kind of injury issue and lack of success given how Austin destroyed his confidence and game by refusing to spell him off with Masoli should have been massive red flags.

I'm taking the supreme pro's side SJ Green who is reputedly the consummate pro and saying Carter has to be in the CFL.

I really think Montreal is making a bad decision to not bring him in. Manziel's getting better but my sense is that his gun slinging and running style like he was so great at college will bring fans to their feet a few times a game but might not lead to wins. The QBs who are winning in the CFL are those putting points on the board and defences in the CFL aren't necessarily giving up points even if giving up yards. Ask Mike Reilly and Trevor Harris for two.

Rob Bagg coming back to the Riders!!!

http://3downnation.com/2018/08/15/rider ... bagg-back/

This story is intriguing. Apparently he was being paid in 2018!!!

It lays credence to the animosity Jones is building up in Regina with both media and fans. He's definitely now got the spotlight on him.

Riders bring Rob Bagg back

Another normal day in Riderville, just like the White House across the border.

Your comment just reminded me of the parallel of Carter tweeting his own demise in the middle of the Riders - Als game and what former Ticat and Maple Leafs Owner Harold Ballard did to his coach, Roger Neilson.

This made Stacks list of 7 Shadiest Firings in Sports History as Neilson had to announce his own firing:
Despite coaching the Toronto Maple Leafs to the conference finals during the 1978 NHL playoffs, his first year as head coach, Roger Neilson was fired in the middle of the following season by owner Harold Ballard.

The team held no press conference and made no announcement, leaving Neilson to inform the media of his own dismissal.

Ballard was hit hard with backlash from both fans and members of the Maple Leafs, who were infuriated by the decision. Unable to quickly find a competent replacement, Ballard gave in to the pressure and brought Neilson back two days later. Then things really got awkward.

Given the crazy show Jones is running - and all that Carter stuff in the bargain bin, Jones could get Carter to come back and wear a paper bag.

Naylor: 'I think Duron Carter's days in the CFL may unfortunately be done'
TSN Football Insider Dave Naylor talks with Farhan.

Sad story right in front of our eyes. I wish the young man well. Endless chances pretty much squandered.

Farhan was on the Lions' weekly radio show with LU tonight arguing that someone will likely bite on Carter in the next month or so when the injury bug strikes and his salary expectations won't take as big a bite out of a team's cap. Ed Hervey told LU on Tuesday that they decided to not sign Carter for a variety of reasons, one of which is the salary cap. They'd have to release someone with a matching salary in order to sign him.

Bagg wasn't being paid in 2018. He just received a part of his salary at some point prior to training camp. Had he not been re-signed the other $100K was still in the Rider bank account. There's a ton of players with similar deals. Him being blindsided probably had a lot to do with the fact the Riders had already paid $35K of the $135K in the spring. Usually teams will release an aging vet before they have to pay out such a bonus. Bagg probably thought his job was secure after that happened. It reminds me in a way of the way Korey Banks left. He had been redoing his contract every year like this. Similar to Bagg's deal he would get a big chunk up front. Then a couple years ago Buono balked at offering the same type of structure because he wasn't so sure Banks would make the club. He didn't want to get into a situation where he would have to cut Banks at the end of camp having already absorbed the up front money on the SMS. Banks got upset, spouted off and wound up in Winnipeg briefly before they cut him.

I'd like to see a running total on the amount of money Jones has pi$$ed away in cap space for players he cut or traded after they received big chunks of salary in roster bonuses/up front money. There is quite a laundry list of such players.

If someone does a forensic accounting of the SSK-Jones era (once it's all over) , it will be a fascinating case study. A circus of SMS trickery, bloated rosters (and for what? I don't a GC on the horizon as a result of all this nonsense). He got lucky being in the right place at the right time in EDM and thought he was King Midas.
