Reaming him out in game 2 of his, some would call, miraculous comeback is full of ego. Let's be real. Buono has the biggest ego in the CFL. Always has back to his Calgary days. Not necessarily a bad thing......when your winning because you have the best players by far and player personnel men. Not anymore. No Shivers anymore. No Ackles. No Hufnagel. Now, and for the past 5 years, his ego looks like a huge detriment.

Another beautiful touch pass to Manny for the TD. Against tight coverage.

Harris finds a hole in the soft zone for the TD.

Ellingson makes a sensational one-handed catch, reaching back for the ball. But the coverage is just too soft. He is wide open for a key first down.

Pass in the flats to Powell. Well set up. The defence was on the ropes. He takes it down to the 1.

Re Willis: He is a loose cannon with a me-first attitude who will continue to do exactly what he did the other night if his HC didn't do exactly what Wally did in response.

Re Lulay and the DOG call: First of all nobody here knows how that conversation went or started. Was it started by Wally venting his spleen at Travis out of frustration that they took the penalty? Or was it out of Travis venting his spleen towards the sidelines because Jarious and the couldn't get their crap together to get a play off in time? Keep in mind it was the 2nd delay of game call of the game (Hello Damon Allen).Some here have blamed Wally for not calling the TO in the Bomber game. Call me crazy but IMO with 17 seconds there it's inexcusable for the offence to not get a play off AND still have time to try a FG if that doesn't work WITHOUT burning a TO. That they didn't should hang on the communications between the OC and QB . Calling the TO only saved the FG attempt.

Regardless it's long been known that one of the things the players have long openly stated is they love and respect Buono because he wants them to be accountable for themselves. I suspect that brief animated discussion between Lulay and Wally was already put behind them long before Travis stepped back behind centre because that's the way pros handle those things.

I expect Wally and Travis have the kind of relationship where this brouhaha will have already been put to bed. Yes, seeing Travis that angry is not typical of him, not typical by a long shot. But after all this time of working together, Wally and Travis must certainly be capable of moving on to the next challenge.

As for Willis, it comes with his territory. I was surprised Hervey beat Wally to the punch for giving Willis the hairdryer treatment. Maybe now there won’t be a next time.

Some us have been here a long time . if only the comments in this thread were what brought the reaction from some , you would have a fair point . But this goes back for probably more than 10 years and has steadily got worse. Many posters have left because of the atmosphere created by a lot of the posting . there has been much tongue biting for a long time . not going to come up with a long list of questionable stuff and it really has nothing to do with criticizing coaches . The way a lot of the posting is done is the issue and there are often veiled insults in them toward others who don't agree . Even going back to last Christmas , in his annual Christmas poem there was animosity which made the whole thing unreadable . When I read those posts , they read to me like a bitter individual. And no , I no longer read any of his posts.

This was the play that broke the Lions' backs. Washington appeared to play even more zone than usual this week because the Lions didn't want to put Herdman into man coverage on Powell. I believe Wally said as much the day before the game.

On the play before this one, Herdman was in his usual middle one when Ellingson crossed in front of him and made his great one-handed catch for an 11 yard gain. On this play, Herdman was again in his middle zone. Lokombo started to blitz up the middle but backed off when he saw Powell slide out into the flat. He and Herdman both scrambled to the sidelines try to prevent Powell from turning the corner but Powell barely eluded both of them and managed to tiptoe down the sidelines for 25 yards, setting up his game-winning TD on the next play.

I saw that, too. BCFAN. Herdman played his heart out. Great against the run. I expect he does not have Solly's speed to the sideline. Ellingson is very fast. Powell made a great run after catch.

I think Ottawa's offensive game plan was pretty good. On those plays they stretched us out, very effectively using the width of the field. I would credit their detailed game planning.

I thought our offensive game plan was very good. Both passing game and running game very good.

The defence played extremely well too, given the liabilities of zone defence. The Lions forced six 2-and-outs on nine Ottawa possessions in the second half before the Redblacks knelt down on the final series of the game.

It's tough for a defence to close out a victory playing zone defence when the opponent has nearly two minutes to march down the field. That's when you need some QB pressure to force a throw into coverage. The Lions didn't get any of that, and Harris exploited the holes in the zone to set up the winning TD.

Stupidity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. How many times over the years have the Lions gone to a zone defence only to have the opposition march down the field to score the winning points ??

if by 3rd overall pick you mean godber , he ha been on the short yardage unit from day one . knevel should have been a tackle from day one , hopefuly he stays there

I think he's referring to our #3 overall pick in the 2017 draft, Danny Vandervoort.

I agree with you on Knevel. Hopefully, this spate of injuries will inform management on who (and where) these Nationals should be lining up. Sometimes these changes through injury turn out to be serendipitous.
