Good luck is right. Tsoumpas has retired but will stay with the Stamps in a strength and conditioning role. He says he has recovered from his concussion but has decided the risks of continuing to play are not worth it.
That's too bad. He had a promising career. Kudos to him for putting his health first and to the Stamps for giving him a role with the club.
Big loss. He was dynamite from the get-go.
Good decision, health before football.
I recall an SI article back in the 1960s about a university coach in the US who had linemen and linebackers charge each other like rams and butt heads directly. If that coach was/is still alive I think we could expect some lawsuits.
And, at that time, there was no outcry about concussions. Just that the coach was a tough guy.

Nick Moore tweeting he can't wait for Feb 15 after turning down reported offer of $140,000-$150,000 from Lions. Nuts!!!!! Spend an extra $50,000 and go after Dressler instead.

According to News1130, Moore wants closer to the $180,000 that Maurice Price is supposedly making in Calgary. Price has several years of NFL experience but if he is making that much, he's overpaid. I hope the Lions can keep Moore but that kind of money is close to what Geroy was making after nine thousand-yard seasons. Moore has had one thousand-yard season. I would have expected his value to be in the $120,000 to $130,000 range.

Agreed. While I like Moore, we have good options at receiver and in the salary cap world he does not deserve that money after ONE 1000yd season.

Earnest Jackson and Korey Williams can fill the void if Moore leaves and they will do it for less $, I would guess.

Right. And we have S. J. Haidara waiting in the wings. Move Courtney Taylor to the Ranger position.

The only concern I see is a desperate team like Winnipeg or Edmonton offering that kind of money. I can't imagine many other teams willing to give him 180K

I find that offer from the Lions shocking. Shockingly high. And I am a fan of Nick Moore.
Always said he was slick, smooth and slippery. But his hands have been suspect at times. He is not a burner. He does find holes.
I would place him more at the $100,000 level.
I find the salary of Maurice Price shocking too.
Maybe CFL salaries have crept up beyond what seems to be the market value in my view. I don't follow them closely, aside from what I hear in the media from time to time.

Well, the teams can cry poverty (edit- meant to say "CAN'T cry poverty") due to the tv deal the league got. IIRC, some players said something to that effect when they heard the numbers......

I thought that the CFL got a large increase (by CFL standards) from TSN for the new TV deal, so how can the teams cry poverty?
I also thought the debate would be about increased roster size vs same roster size and more $ for existing players.

Well for now, new TV deal or not, teams still have to work within the SMS. How the TV deal impacts the 2014 cap won't be known until a new CBA is ratified. I would imagine teams will be receiving some direction from the league on a temporary cap number to operate under until the new deal is in place. During the last CBA the cap increased $50K each year. They may opt to work under those auspices for 2014. A team could gamble that, for example, the cap will go up $250K but if final CBA negotiations settle on $100K they find themselves suddenly having to dump salary or be prepared to pay the penalties.
