Yes, I can give him credit for getting that wide open when everyone knows that's the play. Kudos RGM for being elusive and fast. Now, learn the art of making an easy catch. I'm not going to buy the stiff breeze. First, it wasn't that windy (for Regina) at that game. Second, it's a football, not a shuttlecock - any wind would cause gradual modifications to the flight pattern throughout the course of the flight of the ball, not a sudden change at the last moment like it deflected off something solid. So, just to clarify, my issue isn't that he didn't make that practically impossible catch. My issue is that he was 5 yards behind coverage, with enough time on his hands to have tea, yet positioned himself so poorly he had to attempt a spectacular catch instead of having an easy grab.
Now, all that said, I kinda went off the deep end in my original post. Clearly, I'm not an RGM fan and it'll take a year or two of Geroy Simon-like dependability from him for me to change my mind. However, as has been mentioned by others, nobody should be cut from a team based on one game in which the whole team had issues. The longer I type, the more I babble, and clearly by the time I was suggesting he not let the door hit his butt on the way out, I'd lost perspective.
I think that those on this thread who are questioning Chaps decisions/lack of adjustment might be right. (I wouldn't go as far as to say we should replace him). I didn't really think about it during the game (for me I was just kinda wondering how long Buck was going to last this season if he kept getting hit like that), but throwing screens and running the ball relentlessly is an effective counter to the pressure defense that Sask was giving us. And it is curious, especially given how well we ran when we did run, that we didn't attempt to run more.
