As Hugh Campbell once said to a dejected FG kicker Dave Cutler who missed at BC Place to give the Lions the win - "Never be so arrogant to think that one play or one player ever wins or loses a football game."

Those words could be applied to Buck Pierce who is wanting to shoulder the blame and responsibility for the mess in Regina. He needs to do his part yes, but the pro QB's job is not to take all the responsibility just as much as it is not fair to say that Grice-Mullen cost them the game.

If McCallum didn't hit the upright.... If Green had made that fumble recovery...if..if....if... if.....

Lots of stuff together determined that outcome. The good players and teams learn the lesson from a game - win or lose - and get ready for the next one.

Re: Post Game Thoughts

I'll say this once again, as Friday's game re-enforces it yet again...........As long as Chapdelaine is anywhere within a 100 miles of this team......they will continue to struggle on offense.

Absolutely no adjustment to Etcheverry's schemes.........it's not rocket science........if a team is overloading their pass rush to one side.......you roll your QB in the other direction away from the pressure.......Sheeesh !!

The stiff breeze at Mosaic had to blow that football a little off course, if you watch the replay from the head on view. I woulda loved to see RGM's route to get loose. Thing of beauty I suppose. As the coaches have said before, he catches absolutely everything in practice, and IMO is the most agile player on the team with blazing speed. While I love Arceneaux too, (who has great straightline speed), Walter Stith probably has better footwork than him. He's not an agile dude.
Yes, I can give him credit for getting that wide open when everyone knows that's the play. Kudos RGM for being elusive and fast. Now, learn the art of making an easy catch. I'm not going to buy the stiff breeze. First, it wasn't that windy (for Regina) at that game. Second, it's a football, not a shuttlecock - any wind would cause gradual modifications to the flight pattern throughout the course of the flight of the ball, not a sudden change at the last moment like it deflected off something solid. So, just to clarify, my issue isn't that he didn't make that practically impossible catch. My issue is that he was 5 yards behind coverage, with enough time on his hands to have tea, yet positioned himself so poorly he had to attempt a spectacular catch instead of having an easy grab.

Now, all that said, I kinda went off the deep end in my original post. Clearly, I'm not an RGM fan and it'll take a year or two of Geroy Simon-like dependability from him for me to change my mind. However, as has been mentioned by others, nobody should be cut from a team based on one game in which the whole team had issues. The longer I type, the more I babble, and clearly by the time I was suggesting he not let the door hit his butt on the way out, I'd lost perspective.

I think that those on this thread who are questioning Chaps decisions/lack of adjustment might be right. (I wouldn't go as far as to say we should replace him). I didn't really think about it during the game (for me I was just kinda wondering how long Buck was going to last this season if he kept getting hit like that), but throwing screens and running the ball relentlessly is an effective counter to the pressure defense that Sask was giving us. And it is curious, especially given how well we ran when we did run, that we didn't attempt to run more.

Well.... on to week 2.
