I wore out so many VCR's taping NHL games, NHL drafts etc...when I was younger.

I don't care too much about the NHL anymore and it's the CBA stuff that did me in. I follow the Canucks (not closely). It started for me with the earlier labour stuff (1990's). Its been a game of chicken between the PA and the Owners but the funny thing is the only losers in this game are the Fans. One Canuck Fan I know told me she'd have to pay a fee to be on the waiting list for Season Tickets

The Canucks Fans I know are really upset with the lack of moves Gillis has made and dumb moves like "trading Naslund". I want to give this guy a chance and I've given up trying to explain Naslund wasn't TRADED. I hope the NHL and NHLPA have learned to get this stuff settled without stikes/lockouts.......

One of the radio guys yesterday (forget if it was Ball or Pratt) was noting that the MINIMUM salary is now becoming more of a problem for some teams.

Yeah, they've been raising that point for a while now, it seems. When the floor and cap numbers for the upcoming 08/09 season were first announced, they pointed out that the upcoming floor number is now larger than the first post-lockout cap number!

All may not be lost for those teams who were doing it on the cheap pre-lockout, though. The yearly cap hit of a given contract is the average yearly value of that contract — not its actual value for that year. This will impact on players with front-loaded deals from richer teams. As they approach the later years of such contracts, they will become attractive commodities to poorer teams who can trade for those contracts to artificially boost themselves to the floor even though their real outlay won't necessarily reach that high. With such implications, it will be interesting to see how the money distribution of a typical multi-year contract evolves over the lifetime of this CBA.

What happens anyway, if a team doesn't reach the floor? Do they just have to pro-rate all their contracts to get there, or is there an additional penalty(ies)?
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

If there was any doubt about the quality of the Canucks current ownership all you have to do is read this comment in The Province today. Aquilini I don't think has had SFA to do with soccer in Vancouver but if this is true he might have end ran the Whitecaps to let the MLS know he wants a franchise. Now you know why this guy got sued after buying the Canucks out from under Beedie and Gaglardi. While the courts found nothing wrong with it, it certainly speaks to the ethics and character of Aquilini that he'd do that to his former pals without a heads up or to the Whitecaps owner this time out. Now this may be speculation but if true it says something about his character. Hey, it's business and his query on the MLS franchise is fine if this is what took place. He owes nothing to Kerfoot who has put his money into the Caps and a few other soccer related donations.

Who'd you rather have? Nash-Kerfoot or Aquilini?

The Whitecaps may not be the only group pursuing a MLS franchise here: Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini is interested, too page a63

Yet another departure by a long-time Canuck. Steve Tambellini has left the Vancouver Canucks to accept a position as the new general manager of the Edmonton Oilers.
