It boggles the mind to think Wally could have thought he could have won the game with a punt at that point . The field goal was only one of two options that could have resulted in a win . The other being the hail mary pass . The pass would have been much less likely to have succeeded , but has been done before . But the punt ?? Macallum was going to kick a 70 yarder ?? Wasn't going to happen , and that would only have tied even then . Good thing PM won out . It is hard to understand Wally's thinking sometimes .

It would have been a very tough punt to make....at least 60 yds to get to the end zone and more to angle it out in the end zone...but as you note penw....sometimes Wally's game decisions baffle. For example, he gambled on third and a long one in our end of the field but often he's punted rather than go for a third down and less than a yard play in the oppostion end of the field.
This season has sure turned around...the coaching has been excellent in terms of Benevedes and Chap and outside of our downfield special teams coverage our players are really playing well.'
Its frustrating in one way in that I look back at the previous two seasons and Chap's refusal to change our offensive scheme and play calling and the negative impact it had on our team performance, when he always had it in him to lead a dynamic offence. However, it took being on the edge of a cliff to create the changes that were necessary. Right now our offensive play calling and scheme, including a multi-faceted running attack, use of formations and motion and misdirection are impressive.
As Ed Willes wrote today in the Province:
"A couple of months ago the Lions were 1-6 and jobs in the organization were hanging by a thread. Now they're 8-6, they sit in first place in the West and, unbelievably, they're in a position to host the Western final the same year they're hosting the Grey Cup". (Vancouver Province)
Its sure a good feeling to watch our Leos right now. Of course the winning helps but to me its just the style of our offence and defense that is a treat to watch, even at times when we are not successful. Esepcially after years of watching our one dimensional offence its a treat to see it designed the way it is now.

What boggles my mind is that I think it would make much more sense to try to angle a field goal to land out of bounds in the end zone for a single point than to try to punt it. That way you're still only 55 yards away as opposed to 65 or 70. Regardless, I'm very glad that McCallum talked some sense into Wally and convinced him to let him take the shot at the win.
We are winning in spite of Wally, not because of him.

I know how you have felt about JJ in the past, but it's a different club this season.
Don't you truly feel that a lot of Paul McCallum's success, is at least in part due to being so total confident of his placeholder and long-snapper too?
They work like one well-oiled machine, in that the ball is delivered in a timely fashion with consistency, that it will be straight a true (laces out

No question that its a team in terms of field goal kicking...and our long snapper and Jarious both deserve kudos too...while McCallum is the key to the record...you don't kick 30 field goals in a row without great snaps and excellent holds either.PigSkin_53 wrote:Lovin' this line Pauser...TheLionKing wrote:ExactlyThe_Pauser wrote:
