You didn't miss anything WCJ. It's the same old, same old we been fed after each loss. It's not coaching or the schemes. It's the players not executing.

Sorry BCF, I'm a glass half full guy too, but I have to completely disagree with you. I thought PP was horrendous most of the night, save for parts of the first quarter when we lined up extra blockers like Jones. And it got worse as the game wore on.
Valli was completely outclassed all night and resorted to holding on for dear life. Reid and Newman were getting turnstiled (and to think Doug Brown and Dorian Smith didn't even play!). The normally reliable Archibald and Olafioye were struggling too. It was a complete mess. Sure, the 4 sacks may have come in the 4th quarter during desperation time, but how many "hurries" did the Bomber pass rush create all night? How many times did Lulay and Jackson end up on the turf as/after they released the ball? How many passes did they have to unload too early to avoid devastating blows? (it partially explains their horrible completion percentages). I can't give you exact numbers without replaying the game and ruining my Sunday but, suffice it to say, the answer was "many."

Why doesn't someone ever ask if it's not the schemes how come after 3 seasons and several new players brought into the lineup, no one has been able to "execute" the schemes? Is it because we're not bringing in good enough players? (Players who had success elsewhere I might add). Or maybe, just maybe, it really is the schemes? Maybe we need to start building our game plan around the strengths of our players, as opposed to building a game plan and telling our players to execute it, despite what their strengths and weaknesses may be.

For once we agree Pauser.

As for the game day experience.....
Maybe it was my imagination but I thought the replays were better yesterday at Empire. I want to see the replays of most plays and I wasn't dissappointed too much last night. Obviously dissappointed by the content but at least they showed them.
Great to see so many Blue Bomber fans too. There even were some faithful during the lean times but last night you can tell this team has got its swagger back.....
Two annual common complaints from season ticket holders 1 get rid of chaptick 2 get rid of Tim Donovan
Well the Lions seem to have done the later instead of the former AND I would rather have Donovan doing the MC'ing than his replacement......

I'm guessing that's not Western Canada, so we do have an American scout. He's one of the best in the biz, but he can only bring in the talent, along with Roy Shivers. It's up to the coaches and GM to assess it and then to give them the opportunity to "execute".
Edit: Marquise Charles wasn't signed in the off season as he was under contract to the Spokane Shock of the AFL. He's been available for any team since the end of July when the Shock were eliminated
I didn't know that Wade is working for us as the Western Regional scout....I didn't think he was. I really wish we could find a really good import pass rushing end...it would make a huge difference to our defense..and especially now that it looks like we're going to go with a 4-3 defense as our primary formation.

The real question is, why is it that the other teams
can execute and the Lions still can't after several seasons with the same coaching staff?

Does anyone know where to find penalty stats for the games? Does the CFL keep a record of it?

There are lots of sources for penalty stats.
CFL Live Play has stats for each game. Here's the Lions-Bombers game, with penalties at the bottom of the middle column:
http://liveplay.cflcentral.com/LPFiles/ ... board.html
Weekly league stats are posted at cfl.ca and cflmedia.ca. This week's isn't out yet. Here is last week's. Go to the last page, bottom line, third and fourth columns:
http://cfl.uploads.mrx.ca/league/pdf/en ... 085020.pdf
The league also includes penalty analysis in its weekly game analysis at cflmedia.ca, with a stats on how penalties of each type have been taken on offence, defence and special teams so far this year, and some simple comparisons with the past two seasons.
http://cflmedia.ca/index.php?option=com ... 7&Itemid=6
If you're looking for individual stats on how many times a specific player has been penalized for holding during the season, you'll probably have to calculate it yourself from the individual game stats. That's what I usually do when I can't find a stat I want.

Not happy with the progress of Khreem Smith, Blitz? Just curious, as I think he's played quite well.
After last night's debacle, I am more concerned about the interior of our O-line. Hopefully John Hameister-Ries can come off the 9 game a little earlier.

Thanks, BCFan. It seemed to me that we were penalized a lot more than that when I watched it live.
I'd rather have JHR sit out until he's healthy than get reinjured on a lost-cause season. So frustrating...

Sorry, I didn't mean "rush him back before he's ready." There's a rule now whereby teams can activate up to two players before the 9 games are up. Just saying it would be nice if JHR could come back before the 9th game (assuming his injury has healed).

I know. Reading the Buck Pierce thread has just got me thinking about injuries.

The Lions went into the game as the least penalized team in the league and took 10 penalties, including 4 holding calls and a too-many-men penalty (on Arland Bruce, according to Farhan Lalji) on second and inches after a 3-minute TV timeout. The 13 players were on the field the whole time with JJ, who usually makes sure the right personnel are out there, but not this time when it counted most.
While I in no way want to be interpreted as blaming the officials for this loss, by the same token when I saw that it was the Johnson crew I knew we were in trouble. That is one flag-happy bunch. I'm not saying that because Johnson is from Winnipeg that he would be biased. I'm sure he's not.
I remember Johnson as the guy who flagged BC for "roughing the passer" on Kerry Joseph in that playoff game against Sask at the same time as calling Joseph for an illegal forward pass (over the LOS). Whut? Scuze me?

Read that if a flag was thrown on the 69 yard called back touchdown it should have been Valli being held, not holding on Valli. Apparently the Bomber had hold of him. Think I read it in Beamish's Sun piece.
