I really hope you're not anyone's financial advisor.
The CFL season's half over - - which means he'd only get half his salary. So how much more than $170K will he get in the CFL? Once he gets onto active roster it's $20K/week. Forget about factoring in the CFL signing bonus - - that'll be there after the season just as it is now.
Doesn't make any financial sense at all to come back to the CFL this year.
What will he get next year?

Cro,
Pat White was also let go, and he fits the mold of crazy athletic QB - might be fun to watch.
Giguere was cut from the Colts as well.

Do you know the story of the Scorpion and the frog? A frog agrees to take a Scorpion across the river on the promise the scorpion will not sting the frog on the journey for then they will both die. Half way across the scorpion stings the frog, now dooming them both. "Why did you kill us?.. I couldn't help it, it's my nature it's what I do"
I realize that Bret is set for life. But so what? Sometimes it's hard to separate the game from the money but if this is what Bret loves to do, and this is his lively hood for now I'm sure he will play pro ball till it's no longer an option.

I don't see Romberg as having the CFL even remotely on his radar screen this season. Romberg turns 31 next month. For him to sign a CFL deal now effectively permanently ends his NFL career as he wouldn't be available again until after the 2011 season at the earliest when he'll be pushing 33. For Romberg the sensible thing to do would be to remain an NFL FA for the rest of the season. No doubt an injury will open a door before the season is out. If nothing happens and there is little interest in him in the offseason then maybe he can consider the CFL. It's hard to say if a guy who has been living and playing outside of Canada for the last 12 of his 30 years even has an interest in returning.
Foley is similar. He's already 29. Despite what his agent says I can't imagine a team wanting to use a valuable practice roster spot to develop a player who is already in his prime. You need to use those spots to develop guys who are in their early 20's and can help your organization for a decade, not develop players who should already be developed. IMHO Foley has to make it onto a 53 man NFL roster or his NFL experience is over.

I happen to know the Lions were one of the teams that scouted him at Dolphins camp, included in that was the Esks VP for player personnel.
TiCats have Giguere's rights don't they?
BTW, this is one of the things I love about the CFL, things can change soo quickly, in a week in the middle of the season we can have a totally new team.
The Oline has already been rebuilt and manned with talented players, not just "some guys"..I
love that flexibility.

Ricky Foley is an interesting case, if he could show that he provides instant pass rush he will stick at least this yr down south, if he practice squaded he only can show that if called up, and so far he has not shown that he does provide instant pass rush so why would he be put on a teams PS?
His agent certainly seems to think a team will PS him, I'm in agreement with you, he makes the 53 or he will remain a NFL FA for the rest of the year then decide what he wishes to do this winter.
A guy I have my eyes on is Brandon Sharpe, he is very much in the mold of the Bomber's Phil Hunt and was just waived by Dallas.

Just to end this:
ProStarSports Congrats to RICKY FOLEY, resigning with the #Jets on
their Practice Squad. Once he learns that system, look for him to make an impact!

EaglesInsider Eagles have signed the following players to the
practice squad: DT J. Owens, OL D. Reynolds, C A.Q. Shipley, WR C. Hall and RB M. Mallett
Martell Mallet was signed to the Eagles practice squad.
That just leaves Lumbala and Grice Mullin.

Chick and Blair White made the Colts PS as well.
As for Pat White...not impressed with the arm. He could certainly make a go of it, but if I were his agent, I'd try to get him a UFL gig first...he could probably win a job with Florida and take some playing time away from Brooks Bollinger, for example.

Not so fast:
FifthQtr Fire up the speculation one more time: Ricky Foley
released today by NY Jets: Lions
Don't put salt on that keyboard just yet Hambone, let's see if Sheehy's "4 offers" prove to be true as he has been cut twice already.

This early in the year being on the practice roster is at best precarious especially for an older player as teams are keeping an eagle eye on other cuts in case they see somebody they think might have more upside.

Yep, and sooner or later Ricky will have to decide if bouncing around is worth it or if a return is in his best interests.
