Only change I would make is to start OUT OF scoring position. Like midfield or something. It would help to eliminate ties and be more exciting.
The OT should employ a factor of the kick game. This could be accomplished with a KO from the GL to get an average start at the D's 40 yardline, unless of course you receive a penalty on the kick return or even potentially run it all the way back.
Entertainment value = an all time low

maybe they should just have a kick, pass, and punt contest

i see and hear that one all the time and it never makes sense to me. How does moving 20 (or even 10 as I often see proposed) yards farther back from scoring help to break a tie - which is the point of OT? It doesn't.
