at some point it may come to that, but I would hope we don't have to concede to letting the inmates run the asylum just yet.

I like others don't think all Rider fans are idiots nor are all Lion fans and certainly none of us want to be judged by the worst among us. It is fans that makes this game - without them NO teams to cheer or jeer.

The players are awfully close to the fans in Regina and I know from reading comments that the Lions can be jabbering back and forth with them - that is not good and the coaches should stop that. Security is likely the best in that area with eyes on the fans and instant removal if they act up.

The old days, we didn't have enough fans for the Lions to bother with security as IR. But I've never sat behind the opposition bench, so I was just wondering if security has always been around that area or not.

That's a tough one... should a team really be penalized for the actions of it's fans? I think there may already be an existing rule that says something like if fans cause a delay of game the home team could be assessed a penalty (or maybe I'm thinking of the NBA?) but I doubt this is/has ever been enforced. It also puts a home team in danger of getting penalized by the actions of covert opposing fans who could cause a disturbance in order to help the visiting team.

Plus no CFL team owns or manages their stadium so in many ways they are at the mercy of that facility in terms of security, crowd control, and alcohol policy.

What I would like to see the CFL to come up with a league policy for stadium security (ie. no sale of canned beer) and a list of possible sanctions for teams who do not play in a stadium that adheres to that policy. So for example, following the beer can incident in Regina the league could access a "no alcohol" sanction at Rider home games for X number of games, or until the league is satisfied that sufficient controls are in place to ensure a safe venue for players and fans alike. While alcohol sales may be controlled by the City of Regina, the CFL should be able to tell the Riders that if liquor is on sale at their home games while the sanctions are in place that they will be assessed a fine, or in the most extreme cases, forfeit the game.
you are thinking of the nhl, which started the delay of game penalty to home teams when their fans throw things on the ice. It started in the playoffs of 96 when florida fans would throw thousands of plastic rats onto the ice after a goal, after scott mellanby found a rat in the dressing room and killed it with his stick.

Yes there is/was. I know, the Lions have been penalized for the crowd. I think it was just excessive noise which the bad team couldn't get off a snap the third try. I can't recal exactly the last time it happened.

Not true, see above.

From the CFL rulebook:
Article 10 – Crowd Noise
The Team A captain may request the Referee to stop the game if excessive crowd
noise prevents Team A from putting the ball into play. The Referee may permit Team
A to return to its huddle. The Referee shall allow reasonable time but under no
circumstances shall the play be delayed more than three times.
No actual penalty for it. The Rulebook only states a penalty for electronic noise after the offensive team breaks it's huddle. Electronic noise is allowed during the huddle and after the play.

I think it was a five yarder only but still enough to hurt. It may have been against the bombers...

I've been at some really noisey games, never was there a crowd penalty. I've never heard of that in any football league. Fans are supposed to be loud. The electronic noise i knew about, that can be a penalty

I recall something like that too.

I'd love opposing players to throw footballs into the stands at B.C. Place. That would give us more expensive souvenirs to collect. There was a time when it happened often, especially by Saskatchewan players celebrating touchdowns in the west end zone, and fans wearing all colours loved it. Now most opponents don't give opposing fans the satisfaction of sharing in their celebration.

Well I was at the game Saturday night and I have to say that the vast majority of Rider fans were awesome. Great atmosphere all night. There were some complete idiots that were throwing beer cans and that includes at least one Lion I saw throw one back.
