Re: BC Place to be CLOSED for 6 months during Roof construction

NEWS1130 reported this morning that long awaited improvements on BC Place's interior will commence later this month. From their website:

"Thursday, September 04 - 08:55:00 AM

Shane Bigham
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The old BC Place we've known for the last 25 years will soon be changing. Work begins later this month on renovations announced in the spring.

Premier Gordon Campbell outlined plans for the stadium in May. Work is about to begin now to improve the old dome's concessions, washrooms and seating, and to improve access for people with disabilities. All this comes in time for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games here in Vancouver.

BC Place will be hosting the opening and closing ceremonies but after the Olympics, more work has to be done. The old air-supported dome is going to be replaced with a new retractable roof.

On the waterfront, next to the stadium, a massive state-of-the-art new home for the Vancouver Art Gallery is going to be built."

They noted on the radio, that work on the roof was not planned to begin until after the Lions' 2010 season.

The timetable for the new roof construction is December 2010 to June 2011 so it likely wouldn't impact the Lions at all if there are no delays.

Re: BC Place to be CLOSED for 6 months during Roof construction

Here are the stories from the 2 dailies on yesterday's PAVCO presser:

http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/ ... d7ef689a3c

http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/stor ... 4f4efdb8ba

My initial reaction is the $65 million upgrade will go along way to making BC Place more corporate friendly than anything else with the renovated suites, lounges and the addition of club seats.

I'm sure this pleases the Lions as it will give them more ammo to sell the product and season tickets to the business community.

I thought back in May the plans were to replace all the seats which did somewhat surprise me at the time. None of the articles or the Pavco press releases mentioned such an upgrade — only the addition of club seats. That would seem likely quite an expensive upgrade to simply leave out of a story or press release.

Migawd. Who woulda thought construction workers could work in the rain too? Well I know of one person.

I can't wait for FD45's next "sky is falling post".

CFL to change schedule for 2011. Season to start on New Years Day. Lions not pleased as BC Place will be closed for renovations.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm looking at this concourse mural that is proposed for the changes, and I notice a baseball - but no football anywhere.

And are these sports that are pictured indicative of the events at the dome??
Now that I don't live in Quesnel do I need to change my handle??

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess they have more than one mural design.

Looking at all those different shots in that link I'm liking what I'm seeing. Looks like they will definitely be sprucing up the old girl and minimizing the drab grey designer concrete motif.

Mountain biking probably isn't unless the new turf is very uneven.

What's with the couple in shadow on the right? Is it just my sick mind at work, or does it look like a dude is being propositioned by a "lady of the night?"

I dunno if that's supposed to be representative of the Dome itself - notice all the trees!

How did this work at the old skydome? They had a retrofit for a roof, no? I'm looking forward to the new roof, the other improvements are just gravy!
