And they do go the veteran back up QB route by signing Masoli.

Head scratcher for sure unless there's concerns re: Woods being absolutely 100% or they're thinking Auclair can play SAM. Depth is never a bad thing but.....SammyGreene wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 10:33 am Our first FA signing is Micah Awe. What?
Are we switching to a 30 defence? How many LBs do we need?

That I don't mind. Good unselfish vet who oozes leadership and works very well with everybody in the QB room. He could be very helpful to the development of Brice and/or Schrader and/or another rookie to be named later. If he's on a deal like Dane Evans low base, high playtime incentive contract was he'll be inexpensive.SammyGreene wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 10:41 am And they do go the veteran back up QB route by signing Masoli.

I didn’t see either the Masoli or Awe signings coming.
I like the Masoli signing better. If healthy, he’s a solid No. 2, but will bump Chase Brice back to No. 3.
Awe is joining the Lions for the fourth time. He had limited success in his previous stints. I wonder if the Lions are unsure about the health of Josh Woods.

Farhan suggesting Woods moving back to WILL and going Americans at both inside positions. Hladik trade incoming or is he just filling Lokombo’s role from a year ago as an expensive back up?
Re: Potential Lions 2025 free agent list
Another surprise: OL David Foucault is returning to the Lions. He didn’t have much success here in his first stint, but did well in regular duty at guard in Edmonton for the past three years.

Re: Potential Lions 2025 free agent list
I've always liked Awe, but find it perplexing that never sticks with a team for long. The last two seasons in Calgary was his longest continuous stretch of employment with a team in his 8 years of professional football. This is a guy who had a really good season in Ottawa in 2021 but went unsigned as a free agent until the Lions signed him at the start of training camp. Then he asked for his release after only 1 game because he wasn't starting. An all-star in 2023 but a pretty big drop off in production in 2024 (mind you the same could be said for Calgary as a whole).

Awe's 2023 season was the out of the norm season for him. 2024 was a return to what he usually does. Was it all on him? Change of the way he was utilized? Change to the scheme? Whatever it led to Monson winding up in TO.Belize City Lion wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 11:32 am I've always liked Awe, but find it perplexing that never sticks with a team for long. 2 more Stamps depth guys in receiver Ryson John and LB Adam Konar. A couple of BC boys but not many other positives. Konar was invisible his first time thru here as one of Ed Hervey's "big FA signings" back in 2019.
Re: Potential Lions 2025 free agent list
Rysen John did next to nothing with the Stamps (hardly any playing time or targets), but remains an intriguing prospect IMO for a CFL team that might value what a big target like that can do - as a TE or slot. Could just be in a battle with Lenius to back-up Cottoy, but love to see a CFL team deploy a couple of big towers like that - even just some.SammyGreene wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 11:56 am 2 more Stamps depth guys in receiver Ryson John and LB Adam Konar. Awe getting to start would just not a good sign IMO - over-rated, but good for some big hits along with dumb penalties - keeps getting more CFL playing time chances due to his passport.

The Lions have re-signed Nathan Cherry.

Re: Potential Lions 2025 free agent list
Flexibility and depth is never bad. It also helps to have multiple options for rotation and different packages. Woods, Hladik, Awe and Konar have all played MAC and WIL. Auclair mostly played WIL but may have played some SAM. I think Konar is earmarked for special teams which where he mostly played with BC in his 2 years here and last year in Calgary. He put up 15 DT and 28 STT in those 3 seasons. If he sees any significant reps on D it means somebody is hurt.SammyGreene wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 11:56 am 2 more Stamps depth guys in receiver Ryson John and LB Adam Konar. Re: Potential Lions 2025 free agent list
Given what we now know about his life away from the field I wonder if the lack of news there is because he's considering retirement. Wife working full-time at UWO. Him working part-time at UWO. Maybe he has an iron in the fire for a coaching position there?don corleone wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 8:27 am Only thing I can think of is if multiple teams were in on David Mackie. Guessing we find out soon.

This makes me happy. When he's healthy I've found him to be a really solid player.
