Well there goes the possibility of playing a cheaper Tyler Packer at centre. Will he be penciled in at right guard instead?Hambone wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 10:56 am Couture will be back with a 1 year extension.

Let’s see how serious the Lions are about getting “tougher” up front with one change on each line thus far.
And an apparent congrats to Cottoy, who unlike Hollins & Hatcher, has reached his Feb. 7 $30,000 contract bonus unscathed.

I'm thinking Couture will be taking a bit of a haircut from his old salary which was used to lure him away from Winnipeg.SammyGreene wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 12:10 pmWell there goes the possibility of playing a cheaper Tyler Packer at centre. I think it's a realistic possibility Packer gets a crack at RG, or if ratio dictates it LG. We'll have to see what they do with Chungh. Center IMO is quite underrated in terms of its complexity. While Packer looked OK in the eyes of the armchair coaches how was he grading out in the eyes of the coaching staff? Was he doing a good job of reading the defense and relaying blocking assignments? Or is he still a work in progress there?
If they are working on starting him at guard that could help a ton in his development as a future center. Seems that's how a lot of future centers develop; spend time at G where they can learn the ropes from a veteran C. A year at G fulltime could help prepare him big-time to take over at C after Couture's contract expires at the end of 2026. All depends on the new staff's assessment of Packer's potential.
You're as old as you've ever been and as young as you're ever going to be.

I know the Riders were a turnover machine last year. But did you know that Adam Auclair's 3 INTs in 2024 would place him at the top of the list of Leos INT leaders?SammyGreene wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 6:17 am Didn't realize Adam Auclair was one and done in Saskatchewan after starting his career in Ottawa. He ranked 25th in 3 Down Nation's top 30 free agents.

I have seen enough of Sukh Chungh now to know that it's time to move on, even if it means growing pains with someone new. Unless Sukh is willing to take a back-up role a la Andrew Peirson at a vastly lower salary, then there's no point keeping him.Hambone wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 12:39 pm I think it's a realistic possibility Packer gets a crack at RG, or if ratio dictates it LG. Run blocking, okay. Pass protection mostly a very poor.
Week 18 PFF critique kind of summarizes my frustration with him:
Chungh earned a 36.1 pass-blocking grade, allowing three total pressures — including two sacks.

Encouraging to hear especially since Hladik isn’t exactly stellar in pass coverage. He seemed to be targeted continuously last season although Phillips dreadful scheme didn’t help.David wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 1:53 pmI know the Riders were a turnover machine last year. I see the Riders have re-signed 36-year-old Micah Johnson to play alongside Mike Rose. If this means the Riders are moving on from Miles Brown at DT then the Lions should be pursuing him.
A bit of a down year by his standards but just 27 and brings much needed size in the interior at 6-1 & 320.

It's been really quiet less than 24 hours prior to the official opening of the FA market...?

Teams have today to try to match any offers before their players become free agents at 9 a.m. PT Tuesday. I don’t expect any surprises.squishy35 wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 1:28 pm It's been really quiet less than 24 hours prior to the official opening of the FA market...?
I still hope the Lions re-sign Mackie, Lee,
Knevel and Evans.

So much for the additional $400,000 making a difference in teams reconsidering their own free agents. Maybe the GMs did know about it all along.
Going back over the team’s transaction page, the Lions have not re-signed any of their own players once free agency opens dating back to at least 2021.
If they are moving on from Lee, Mackie and Chungh it means a major change is coming in their leadership group, especially when you include VA too.

I'm still holding out hope that Mackie gets signed. He had a terrific 2024 season. His potential had been largely untapped in the Campbell years.SammyGreene wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 2:05 pm So much for the additional $400,000 making a difference in teams reconsidering their own free agents. It's a shame watching guys like that have their potential wasted.squishy35 wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 2:08 pmI'm still holding out hope that Mackie gets signed. He had a terrific 2024 season. The Buck offence in the Peg rarely deployed a real H-back
Re: Potential Lions 2025 free agent list
Great article in the Regina Leader-Post by Darrell Davis about how the league needs to stop operating like a quaint Mom and Pop operation and start acting like a professional league. He's kind of saying (and I'm paraphrasing here), 'only in the CFL' can you have a win like this extra revenue, yet somehow manage to taint it through bad communication and poor decision making.SammyGreene wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 2:05 pm So much for the additional $400,000 making a difference in teams reconsidering their own free agents. Only thing I can think of is if multiple teams were in on David Mackie. Guessing we find out soon.

Our first FA signing is Micah Awe. What?
Are we switching to a 30 defence? How many LBs do we need?
