Toppy Vann wrote: Mon Nov 19, 2018 8:46 am It just might be that these Ticats came to Ottawa too cocky while their opponent came out on fire.

Considering the Ticats lost all 3 regular season meetings versus Ottawa this year and are 2-9 versus the REDBLACKS over the past 4 years they had no reason to be cocky.
LOL but after the beatdown of BC - something was not right as all of them looked poor. Granted Ottawa was on fire.
Lol. In that case they would be guilty of short memories. Two of those losses happened after Thanksgiving and not much after they blew the Lions out in Hamilton in September. They managed to eke out a win over Argos in between blowing BC out and losing back to back to Ottawa.

Does anyone think that a full purge of all coaches will be part of the result here?

There needs to a HC with their stamp on the team and their approach as more of the same here won't get them a better result.

If a current assistant from another team comes in they would surely have to keep some of the coaches for two reasons:

1. coaching money limits coming now.

With some coaches still having time left, won't payouts limit them here?

However, if there is some way out of these potential unwanted assistants there will surely be some openings in other teams if Toronto and BC hire from these other teams' staff.

2. Speeding up the Transition for the New HC and Staff

Some continuity has to be a good thing in evaluating the players coming back and free agents etc as well as what the team did and why; what was working and what was lacking.

To have an entire new staff with no bridging might not work.

A full purge might be the result but I'm not convinced that this is going to happen. The coaching fraternity in a somewhat close knit one. Everybody largely knows everybody else and we see all kinds of recycling going on within the coaching ranks. A new coach for example may have played with or been coached by someone on our current staff. Who knows what relationships may be there. We'll see but I do predict a couple of changes in the major roles. I don't see Jackson as OC next year. Washington too could likely be gone. Frankly, if those two were gone I would probably be satisfied if nothing else was done. But it is going to be tough for a new guy coming in to keep those two around especially with their history with the team and with WB.

The new coach must be free to bring in people he is comfortable with, especially as coordinators. As far as I know, Jarious Jackson is the only coach under contract for next season, and it would be suicide to keep him as OC. Perhaps he could be kept for a season as an overpaid quarterbacks coach but that must be the new coach's call. Some of the leading outside coaching candidates, including Orlondo Steinauer, Jaime Elizondo, DeVone Claybrooks and Scott Malinovich, have no previous history with B.C. I don't know if they've worked with any of Wally's 2018 assistants.

If money was not an issue, we might see a clean sweep of the coaching staff.

With the CBA as an issue, there are some coaches who might be retained. Guys like Jeff Reinebold, Randy Melvin, Chris Tormey, Stanley Franks and Markus Howell. Who knows? But there are definitely some very capable guys already on staff.

Clean sweep or not, the man chosen as Head Coach is key, along with the OC and DC.

The only two coaches I want gone are Mark Washington and Jarius Jackson.

I think Jarius Jackson is a good coach and under the right offensive philosophy, I hope he continues with BC in some capacity. It might be like Khari Jones who shows some quite different plays in MTL that weren't here. He noted that they had not in BC developed specifics for Chris Williams as they tried in MTL. Now MTL isn't winning but if they get back their QBS next year should be a huge step up for them.

We need a different mind and tone set on the DEF side of the ball as that comes from the DC and the HC.

Travis Lulay was on Sportsnet yesterday as I guess he is year if the Lions were gone were gone as was discussing the Jonathan Rose suspension and how good a player that Rose was. He contrasted this play maker with those who sit out at field corner hoping no balls come their way and not making plays.

If I have criticism of Mark W's def backfield play at too many times - it was that some games they seemed in position but not just playing the play in front of them like a Jon'than Rose who gets INTs and makes big plays as he's not just sitting where he needs to be.

Lion King you forgot about Dan Dorazio. Does anyone here want him back? He needs to retire or be fired too.

I would not object to Mark Washington being kept around and mentored by a defensive-minded head coach such as DeVone Claybrooks or Noel Thorpe. I also would not mind Jarious Jackson being kept around and mentored by an offensive-minded coach such as Paul LaPolice, Jaime Elizondo or Scott Milanovich. I don't care one way or the other about most of the other assistant coaches but I don't want Dan Dorazio to be kept around under any circumstances.

Steinauer and Reinbold worked together from 2013 thru 2016 in Hamilton as DC and STC respectively. Milanovich was the Argos HC and Steinauer Argos DBC when Jarious played there in 2012.

I know the sentiments here but I think you'd find that almost to a man every offensive lineman would disagree with you. They absolutely love him as their coach.

How do the quarterbacks feel? They're the ones running for their lives.
