Some of that has to be hung on Sports Editor Jonathan McDonald too. As soon as he knew his full-time Lions beat writer was taking a buyout package, someone on staff should have been re-assigned the beat rather than this "by committee" approach between Ewen, Willes and Tsumura. So because the Whitecaps beat writer remains on, stories are being cranked out on a regular basis.
But this Postmedia "one news room 2 paper approach" should mean Beamish's Lions stories will just end up in both. Farhan and Rick Dhaliwal seem to be the best for Lions breaking news now via Twitter with LU still having a limited role as a 1040 freelancer.
I've always found it quite amazing no one has really grasped that "insider" role at the Lions official radio station over the years despite Rintoul and Moj having football backgrounds.
