Some very questionable move by the coaching staff. Two examples:

i) With less than a minute remaining in the first half, why were the Lions so anxious to punt on 3rd down ? Did they consider using the full 20 seconds before punting thus limiting the Riders to the number of plays they can run ?

ii) Why did the Lions allowed to clock to run down to the final 3 minutes left in the game ? Use one of their time outs before the 3 minute warning to run an extra play.

I don't think we'll ever reach a definitive figure, but do you really think there were this many? I recall discussions on here in years past where there seemed to be a consensus that the 50k+ playoff games had no more than around 5k Rider fans in attendance. We were even speculating in the last few days that the usual Ssk contingent wouldn't show up in its usual numbers this time out on account of their recent tailspin. I'm not really sure but I figured it was about two to four thousand. I didn't notice that much noise from them through the night and it's not like they had nothing to cheer about. I sit under the upper deck so I have no idea how much green was up there.

I suppose you're basing this 8-9k on the differential of this game from the average of the rest. But attendance usually builds in the fall anyway and this was also Geroy's return, so these factors prob drew extra locals (Lion fans).
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

Ugh, just dreadful clock management.

I have no accurate idea of the extent of Riders-fans attendance, but from watching the game on the tube, it seemed to me to that there was a helluva lot of green in the stands!

:rotf: heard from a TSN Panel member that Officiating Guru Jake Ireland asked the crowd to BOO him while he was being inducted into the Hall Of Fame........

Last nights officiating is grating less on me today than it did last night. Like I said numerous times, Johnson is probably my favourite of the current slate of officials. IMO, it would be kinda nice to see some of the videos that the CFL uses to 'teach' its officials. Its funny because officiating is the one thing I admit I couldn't do but I can be very vocal about people who are making every effort to be good at it....... Okay, I could do it but the boos/complaints would be even worse.....

Wonder what is meant by 'Blockerman' oops I mean Superman's grumpiness? Doesn't like not getting the ball? Realizes its getting close to time to hang up the cleats? Should have had these big records broken in orange or gunmetalgrey? Or is there really no grumpiness at all....?

There are no NFL games on Friday nights, so I guess all you Yankee lovers will have to watch Jr. Girls volleyball instead. At least the officiating might be more consistent.

Since half the players on each CFL team are American, why not use American officials too? I know during the U.S. expansion days the league used dozens of U.S.-trained officials (as there weren't enough Canadian refs available to handle the 7 games per week). Overall they did an excellent job especially considering they were new to the Canadian game. There are likely hundreds of top-notch football officials in the U.S. who would love to work professionally, even in Canada. Perhaps they could spend one year doing CIS games or apprentice for a season? Then increase the officials salary so they can make a living and demand they study and improve their craft. :roar:

The Lions paid Geroy a nice video tribute, Lion and Rider fans gave him a prolonged standing ovation, his team won the game, his coach was charitable enough to have Durant thow a needless pass to him in the dying seconds to keep his streak alive and he got to spend a night at home with his family. What's to be grumpy about?

Sadly, Geroy is merely an after thought in the Riders offence........and after ignoring him for better than 59 minutes, they rub salt in the wound by throwing him a meaningless pass in the dying seconds just to keep the streak alive.......not easy to take for a very proud man.

Speaking of clock management, DeMarco got called for delay of game. He was very close to being called a number of times. Did the Riders put in new schemes that confused his reads ?

It's hard to believe this won't be Geroy's last season in green although, if released, I am not sure who would be willing to take him on - other than the expansion RedBlacks. It could be the end of the line. When it hit home for me was in Regina a couple of weeks ago. He snagged a pass, had forward momentum and looked to turn it upfield, only to be tracked down by another greybeard in Dante Marsh. That never would have happened in the past.

Yes, Geroy is a proud guy, and I was happy to be among the 37,000+ who gave him a prolonged standing ovation for all he's done to raise the team's profile and amateur football. But he's always walked a fine line (like many superstars do), between confident and proud.....and arrogant. I recall several times as a Lion his almost "me first" get-me-the-damn-ball attitude raised some eyebrows in a such a team oriented sport as football.

I was also surpised to see several "anti-Geroy" signs in the crowd last night, calling him a "traitor." Maybe that stung him a bit too?

Nothing stung more than having to go catch that after thought pass at the end of the game for the continuation of his passing streak. Really though he is playing the role in Regina that Wally described for him here in BC, and he would have had more of a leadership role in BC as the incumbent graybeard vet receiver, not the brought i graybeard receiver with the future HOF resume. Grass is always green in Vancouver, not so much in Regina.
