In any case, at least two Mods have expressed the view that South Pender's comments about Mike Beamish were over some perceived line, especially since Beamish is a member who posts here on occasion. Is the line carved in the sand? No. But it seems to me it is kind of like the way anyone judges bullying/teasing or humour/racism. I think it can be recognized.
Fine about the issue of not criticizing a fellow forum member, WCJ; I've already acknowledged and agreed with his. I didn't know that Beamish was a forum member. It therefore seems to me that the mods might consider informing the forum members just who in the media are forum members so that such sacred cows can be spared in the future. As for the rest of your comment, my opinions about Beamish were no more bullying than dozens of comments made by forum members about others--Glen Suitor, Rod Black, Valli, etc. I think it's easy to see criticism of someone we like as "insulting," "bullying," "over the line," "harsh," etc., but as fair, even if strong, criticism if we feel similarly negatively about the person!
Sacred cow? I checked my comments. No one has said Beamish is above criticism. As far as I know he is the only media person who posts here.

Not to belabor the point or, for that matter, to have the last word, but it's pretty hard to read your post of yesterday without seeing it as suggesting that Beamish should not be criticized on this forum:

From Nov. 6:

Some of us fans are very friendly with Mike Beamish. And many of us fans like his writing style. He does his research. He writes about more than the football game.

As to his style as a writer, an English teacher of over 50 years (not me), and possibly the most loyal Lions' fan, will vouch for his writing ability. As he has to me a great number of times.

Another thing. We don't want insults towards other bloggers on this site. Mike Beamish does read these forums. And he does blog here occasionally. He is sixbeamers.

Mike Beamish and Lowell Ullrich get lots of respect from me. And from a great many of our long time members here. They are the lifeline to the team, especially for those that have limited access to the team.

If that's not suggesting that Beamish should be above criticism, I don't know what would be. But, hey, that's fine; we've agreed already not to criticize him.

Over and out.

You didn't quote this part from the same post of mine ...
WestCoastJoe wrote: I don't think anyone will stop you from saying critical things about our football writers (unless you go too far), but realize it offends some of us. I noticed your previous shot at Beamish. I discussed it with another Mod. He suggested that as a public figure, Beamish is fair game. Maybe so ... But he has friends and fans here. I personally consider him part of this website community.

If you wish to continure this back and forth with me, let us do it in private messages.

Was the Riders fined when they closed practices to the public and presumably the reporters as well ?

Notice the topics on the board that crop up after you hear of the quiet couple of weeks.

I guess this is Wally's way of letting MB learn on the job versus telling him how bad the optics should be.

What surprises me is that the heat should have been on the Lions from fans for something so stupid but like fans in Regina they just lay down and take it. Riders closed all but one practice. The attendees were retirees mostly who had supported their team like the many who go to the Lion practices and who interact with players and coaches. I never went inside when I was able to stop by but liked to see that sort of stuff as it showed appreciation for fans.
Glen Suitor and Rod Black are more distant. Harder for them to get the protection of a sense of community. This raises all kinds of social media issues. Bullying, et cetera. People are much more likely to be harsh, and even cruel online, never facing their target.
I try and think of it this way.

Would I be prepared to say the same thing to the person directly? I don't mean fear of the person smacking you - but is it a reasonable point of view that is fairly arrived at?

The poster who met with Wally when Wally was in full out denial that schemes and play calling were an issue didn't change his position after the meeting. Later Wally reluctantly at season end agreed with posters. But this season ticket holder was critical but polite.

Agreed, Toppy.

As if around a conference table.

Or more informally, in a setting like a sports discussion, as seen on TV.

Of course, football QB Jim Everett physically pushed Jim Rome (who had insulted Everett repeatedly, even to the extent of calling him Chris Evert) to the floor when they met face to face. LOL

A lot of non-football stuff going in the CFL right now that is taking the media off the play off matches.

All this firing (Esk and Wpg with their A/GM now fired) should be done POST GC!!!
Lions shutting out the media, Argos extending their HC but not their GM...weird stuff going on

Is it a full moon?

Riders are shutting out the media as well, seems like the rookie HC don't like the possibility of their plays being leaked out.

As for the full moon being out, wait until Sunday and it may come out from the Cornish game hen. :tease:

Found this on Wpg Sun story - not so smart teams if the CFL needs to issue a memo on this stuff.

Could Marshall be Bombers new D-man?

A league memo sent to all eight teams this week asks them to keep the spotlight “squarely trained on our positive momentum” and support a “media embargo” on hirings and firings until the Tuesday after the Grey Cup.

He also adds:
Unless you’re Toronto, of course.

Somebody should tell the league that out here in the colonies, firing people after a 6-12 season is seen as a positive.

Focus on the Western and Eastern semi-finals, Western and Eastern finals and then the Grey Cup. Plenty of time to speculate who gets fired, comings and goings after Nov.25th
