Ok, I was probably spoiled from that bad experience... but... trying to get tickets now would be expensive, add to the fact it's Ott and it would almost certainly be an expensive night for non ST holders. :bang:

Re: 2011 Western Final Ticket Count

was there in 2004 when we we 55000, we had hockey lock out. I think they would have sold out if they were not selling the upper bowl endzones for $40 + service charges after they sold the lower bowl endzones for $25 + service charges
was there in 2005 when we had 37,000. Grey cup year which sold out way in advance
was there in 2006 when we had 50,000
was there in 2007 when we had 54,000
I think with us hosting the Grey Cup this year it will affect the Western Final Attendance. I think we will do better than 37,000. Look for a crowd between 44,000 and 49,000. The new capacity is now only 52500 so it will be a very good atmosphere.

I don't think I have ever been to a game as loud as 1994 grey cup when the Lions defeated the Baltimore CFLer's in front of 55000 (not sold out) 2007 western final was also very loud the place was rumbling 30 minutes before cutoff.

I still think that Braley is right, the Canucks game will be of little consequence, as the guy looking for scalping tickets will likely try his luck for a WDF vs a more expensive regular season battle with the Canucks.
Close but not quite sold out. There are still some singles left. I grabbed one tonight. Nothing like a day/night Lions/Canucks double-dip to make this sports junkie happy. Now if only the Seahawks played Monday night.

Yeah, too bad they failed to capitalise on that noise by waiting forever for the kickoff, by which time the crowd's momentum had stalled. :thdn:
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

I've been wondering this as well. I also think the lack of riderville will also be seen at the gates. Tack on the Canucks game later in the day and it might be a stretch to expect a sellout. With GC weekend just around the corner and the holiday season fast approaching I can see how some might not have the disposable income they usually do. It would be great if those Albertains jump on the fan train and come out for the show. I just love a full house.

It seems like a lot of people on here and David Braley doesn't believe this thing will sell out. With the hot run we had and the way we clinched first, I think we are going to sell out. Tickets are going pretty fast and still a lot of time to get tickets.

Any numbers so far? How do we know tickets are going fast?

No numbers as of yet. The sales rep that I usually order from told me that tickets were going really fast and his phone was off the hook. It took me a few hours to get a hold of him. I wanted 4 lower bowl tickets and he had a hard time finding them and said there might be only a dozen left. He said that by Tuesday morning the lower bowl would be sold out with exception of singles. With still over a week and a half left to sell tickets, I think we'll see a snowball affect after sunday.

That's fantastic! I would love a full house for the WF but I must admit I still have doubts. Too many events that day and the CG weekend a week away. I do hope I'm wrong though.

Re: 2011 Western Final Ticket Count

First official numbers ... 22,000 sold as of noon Tuesday as per Vancouver Sun article.
22,000 tickets sold for CFL's western final

Lions target 53,000-seat sellout for Nov. 20 game

By YVONNE ZACHARIAS, Vancouver Sun November 8, 2011

With excitement building in the city over the Nov. 20 CFL western final in Vancouver, 22,000 out of 53,000 tickets to B.C. Place had been sold as of noon Tuesday.

Dennis Skulsky, the B.C. Lions’ president and CEO, is satisfied as tickets only went on sale Sunday morning.

“We believe we are going to have a good crowd,” he said in an interview Tuesday. “Now the idea is to make it a great crowd in terms of numbers and then being very loud and proud wearing orange and making this a great home field advantage for us.”

He obviously hopes for a sell-out crowd but “we have to earn the right to have the fans join the bandwagon and feel excitement and we believe they are.”

With the Lions finishing first in the west, this will be their first home playoff game since 2007. They will be playing either the Edmonton Eskimos or Calgary Stampeders depending on the outcome of their semi-final game Sunday at Edmonton’s Commonweatlh Stadium.

He was making no prediction as to who will win that game, but Skulsky does say having home field advantage will be huge. Since moving back to BC Place from Empire Field Sept. 30, the team has won all four games played on home turf. “It’s a wonderful building to come into and call your home. It can be intimidating in some ways” for the opponents.

Skulsky is also satisfied with the fan turnout in the first four games in BC Place since the team moved back to the refurbished stadium. Those attendance numbers are 50,213, 30,622, 29,749 and 35,454. “That’s a lot of fans in four weeks.”

The Grey Cup game is sold out although Skulsky said a few single seats might become available because of the new seating configuration.

Re: 2011 Western Final Ticket Count

22,000 is terrible considering that the preorder deadline for season ticket holders had long past before the first public sales took place on Sunday. I ordered seven playoff tickets, more than double my usual allotment and nearly as many as the eight I ordered for Grey Cup. Where are all the other season ticket holders, and didn't they order extras for the playoffs?

Re: 2011 Western Final Ticket Count

I do believe they're actually around where they were at in 2007 when over 54,000 showed up to the WDF. The win by the Riders in the WSF really pushed the numbers up in the beginning of the week after the WSF which snowballed in the final days.

I can see the Lions selling up to 20,000 in the week leading up to the WDF this year (I think I read that about 15,000 tickets of the 35,500 that were sold to the Montreal game were bought in the final few days.) It will be interesting to see what the numbers are like before the semi-finals are played this weekend.

Glad I'm not the only one... That number is so much lower than I would have expected. With a week and a half left I highly doubt we get a sell out. Yes we still have the walkups, yes we still have the Albertains yet to purchase, but I just don't see that equating to 25-30k.

Canucks playing same day, No riderville, CG weekend a week from date and the holiday season coming up probably all factor into it.

Re: 2011 Western Final Ticket Count

Some simple math:

From Sunday noon (the day tickets went on sale) to game time is 14 days.
18,000 season ticket holders. 22,000 sold as of Tuesday noon which means 2,000 sold a day from noon to noon.
2,000 tickets sold a day until next Sunday noon equals 14,000 plus 18,000 season tickets which is 32,000.
If they average selling 3,000 tickets a day from next Sunday noon to game time that's another 21,000 which all adds up to 53,000.
Here's a day by day-

Sun 6th- 18,000 ... Mon- 7th 20,000 ... Tues 8th- 22,000 ... Weds 9th- 24,000 ... Thurs 10th- 26,000 ... Fri 11th- 28,000 ... Sat 12th- 30,000 ... Sun 13th- 32,000

Mon 14th- 35,000 ... Tues 15th- 38,000 ... Weds 16th- 41,000 ... Thurs 17th- 44,000 ... Fri 18th- 47,000 ... Sat 19th- 50,000 ... Sun 20th- 53,000

-
I suspect this is what the Lions are aiming for as a best case scenario... time will tell. :cr:
