I think he fought his belt.

And his belt won.

It has been well established that the guy is a lost cause. Put him in jail and hopefully the media will forget about him eventually. The guy was barely a Lion and yet every time it makes the news it's "Former BC Lion....." Doubt he would rate that media attention if it wasn't for that tenuous connection.

Boden in his post Lion career has just about ruined it for any kid that would have followed in his footsteps, as the Lions won't be that interested in helping along a potential career to get the burning sensation of Boden's tenure.

Poor Josh, not quite up to dealing with real life.

The latest update about him:

Several women fear that convicted sex-offender and former CFL player Josh Boden may get out of jail this Wednesday.

One of them is his own mother. Karen Boden, 54, told The Province that she is so afraid of Boden's violence that she has sought protective custody and even altered her appearance so her son can't easily recognize her.

Karen is speaking out because she says Boden needs help, and because she wants to give his three-year-old son a chance at a better life.

"This is my grandson, and just like Josh was, he's a beautiful little boy and a happy child, and I want him to have a better life than his dad," said Karen, as she gazed at photos of her grandson and of Boden as a child.

"As long as Josh is out of jail and near his son, I can't risk seeing my grandson," said Karen.

Karen said she still loves her son, but blames his tendency toward violence on taking steroids, sports-related concussions and the fact Boden was introduced to drugs and alcohol at age 11.

A promising young athlete, Boden was scouted as a teen and spent three years with the B.C. Lions. He was cut after playing only the 2007 season.

Boden, now 25, was convicted of two sex assaults last December, but won't be sentenced until July. Out on bail on other charges April 13, Boden incurred fresh charges of assaulting two men and uttering death threats to another and is being held in custody.

Karen said she blames others in the sport for introducing Boden to the seductive world of steroids, money, cars and lots of "available" women.

In 2008, Boden was charged with assaulting his former girlfriend, Kimberley Hallgarth, a young mother and tanning-salon owner.

At trial, Hallgarth wavered on the stand and Boden was acquitted.

A few weeks later, Boden was facing firearms charges (he was later acquitted of those) and was cut by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Karen Boden said that her son has always blamed Hallgarth for "ruining" his football career, but she noted, "Josh threw away his own career opportunities."

In March 2009, Hallgarth was brutally murdered in her home.

Well-loved by a circle of friends and family, Hallgarth left a young daughter, Hailey, who is being raised by her father and paternal grandmother in the U.S.

Police have yet to make an arrest, although Sgt. Jennifer Pound, spokeswoman for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, stressed that the homicide is "an active and open investigation."

Pound confirmed Boden is a "per-son of interest" in the Hallgarth investigation, but said that term could refer to either a witness or a suspect, or just someone police want to interview about the crime.

By September 2009, Boden was out on bail again and the Vancouver police warned he was a "safety risk to the community."

In the summer and fall of 2009, Boden aggressively trailed and groped women, even while under police surveillance. Two sexual-assault convictions followed, and other charges are pending.

Then he taunted and fought police in a violent takedown on Sept. 7, 2009.

"The justice system has to know that Josh should not be released on bail. He should not be back on the streets until he deals with his anger, gets therapy and gets off drugs and alcohol," said his mother.

"Many, many women are just not safe from him."

Boden's rap sheet of convictions and charges runs to dozens of pages, alleging more sexual assaults and assaults, one on a woman, that have not yet made it to trial.

Karen has filed a complaint with the Commission for Public Com-plaints Against the RCMP (CPC), saying she still needs protection.

Another woman, the mother of one of Josh's longtime "girlfriends," says her family "lives in fear" every time he gets out of jail, and she calls him a "walking time bomb."

The woman has asked that her real name be withheld. The Province is calling her Janet Nelson. She sympathizes fully with Karen Boden, although the two women have never met.

"My heart goes out to her. I fully sup-port her efforts to have a relationship with her own grandson, and to be a positive influence in his life," said Nelson. "The fact that Josh's own mother is afraid of him just says it all."

Late last week, B.C. Criminal Justice branch spokesman Neil MacK-enzie said he doesn't know if Boden's lawyer will reapply for bail Wednesday, but said the Crown now has decided to ask that Boden's bail on the sex-assault convictions be revoked entirely.

The Crown also will argue that he should be kept in custody on the most recent charges as well, the new April 13 assaults alleged to have occurred while Boden was out on bail awaiting July sentencing for the sex-assault convictions, MacKenzie said.

It will be up to a provincial court judge to decide whether Boden will now stay in custody.

Talent to burn, just not much in the attic. Seems like he is looking to make a name for himself, and all that is left is a top ten most wanted list.

Crown seeks one-year jail sentence for former BC Lion Josh Boden
The Canadian Press July 26, 2012

VANCOUVER — A Crown lawyer has asked for a one-year jail sentence for a former BC Lions football player convicted of sex crimes at Vancouver SkyTrain stations.

Josh Boden was convicted of two counts of sexual assault and one count each of obstruction of justice and assault on a police officer involving incidents in 2009.

Lawyer Michaela Donnelly says it took four officers, one civilian and a police dog to subdue Boden during his arrest at the scene after one of those sexual assaults.

She says officers described the takedown as the most violent case of resisting arrest they had ever experienced.

Donnelly asked that eight months of jail time be served simultaneously for each of the sexual assaults, followed by another set of four months at the same time for the other two convictions.

Boden was convicted in December 2011 for grabbing a woman’s buttocks and chest while she was riding on an escalator at a downtown station.
