I saw this pic in yesterdays Sun but I learned a bit today. Apparently Rob Murphy IS HOLDING Kerry Joeseph's Most Outstanding Player Trophy Their trophies got mixed up backstage. With his recent special teams award and all-star selection, Ian Smart has established himself as a fine player. I believe very few people know that he is originally from Kingston, Jamaica. It seems like in many cases, non-Canadian and American athletes have been assigned nicknames based on their place of origin. In this day and age of political correctness, I suppose one must be careful when it comes to assigning nicknames based on one's ethnicity and nationality. But in the past, several famous athletes have been assigned nicknames related to their ethnicity and they didn't seem to mind. For example, Normie Kwong was called the China Clipper, Pavel Bure was called the Russian Rocket, Teemu Selanne is the Finnish Flash, and the line of Naslund and the Sedins is called the IKEA line. That said, I wonder why Smart has been given a nickname based on his Jamaican heritage. Perhaps he objected, but if not, how about names like:

Jamaican Jester
Reggae Runner
King of Kingston

I think I heard Armitage say Fantuz won the CIS Canadian award yesterday during the Grey Cup. The Top Canadian Grey Cup award is based on your country of birth not whether you played Canadian College football, right?

I found that out last year.
Smarty left JA when he was 4 years old, but was still able to drop the lingo with me at Fan fest this spring.

Probably just means Top Non-Import as per the ratio rules.

Not necessarily. Could be a Canadian born in Canada and played his football in the States.
