When the ticket count gets to that amount, the 7 - 11 tickets also begin to get sold out, Lionheart is just trying to place his damper on a nice crowd size.

On 1040 they are saying close to 35,000 for tonight.
What is capacity in the current configuration?

Capacity is still around 33,000. They haven't opened any new sections up top and there are still plenty of seats available.

Is 33,000 really the capacity? I would think at some point this year there should be a bigger crowd than that capacity, if not tonight?

The Lions attendance has increased to the point that it is time to just open up the entire stadium and let people sit where they want.

Nope, there is no need for that. You can sit anywhere you want now as it is. The only seats that you cant buy are upper deck endzone.
Want to sit on the 40 lower deck..you can
Want to sit on the 35 Upper Deck...you can
No need to open up more then what they have. The Lions attendance wise have hit close to their ceiling. The only game worth opening up the entire stadium is a play off game, otherwise there really isnt a need for more then 35K seating.

Respectable, for sure. Almost as many as would show up for a Washington State home game in tiny Pullman, Wa.
And yes, no need to remind me of the 12-14,000 attendance games of a few years ago. I was there.
What was it about the Western Final that it
scared off about 18,000 people?

If your glass is half empty:
* The defending Grey Cup Champs deserve to be playing in front of 40,000+ for their home opener.
* They basically have the sporting stage to themselves in this market with no hockey to compete with.
* We drew 145 fewer fans than Edmonton for their home opener, and they didn't even make the playoffs last year.
If your glass is half full (and you're a realist):
* Many casual fans in this market will simply not sit indoors in a domed stadium with no air conditioning on a sunny, warm evening - regardless of circumstance.
* We drew 5,354 more fans than our home opener last year, and 5,387 more than the year before (2005).
* We haven't exactly set the world on fire, losing our first two preseason games and weren't particularly entertaining on offence in our season opener.
* Our season ticket base (nearly 23,000) is such that it's only a matter of time before we draw 40,000 for a regular season game if we keep winning.
If your glass is 3/4 full of prairie-flat piss-water:
* You've just spent $7.50 on Russell beer.

The beer plastic glass seemed to be on the smaller side as well, strange that it still costs $7.50......well not really.

My glass is full too as I was thrilled with anything above 30,000 given the recent history for opening night crowds.
Well over 5,000 more than the previous 2 years and remember too the 2005 opener was the first major sporting event since the Western Final given the entire 04-05 NHL season was wiped out.
If there ever was game to crack the 40,000 barrier it would be Calgary's visit on Sept. 29 given the time of year (prior to the start of the NHL season) and the potential first place ramifications.
