Guilio Carravatta on with Halford & Brough (first time on SN 650--H&B are using their pull to get a non-network guest). Starts at 17:40. Great detail of his perspective from training camp right up to the Friday craziness.

And if he actually did start and tossed all those flutterballs would the bettors be any less freaked out and pissed off? I'm thinking not. They'd be just as mad claiming the Lions should have announced well in advance that Rourke would be starting so the odds and spread would change to their advantage. Note to Campbell: in the unlikely situation this happens in the future go ahead and start Reilly, call a running play, and then put in Rourke so those who like to piss away their money gambling will be happy. The day the teams have to start bending over to make game time decisions that appease bettors is the day I stop spending my time and money on the CFL.DanoT wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 5:31 am Bettors on the Lions might have been freaked out and pissed off that Reilly didn't start. But in the end the Lions beat the betting spread so if your bet on the Lions then you won your bet even though they lost the game. Whats not to like?
What's even worse is those who want to say the Lions made TSN look bad by not passing the info on to them before kickoff. FFS what were they to do? Use their first time out to halt the start of the game so Campbell could drop everything to get on the blower and call TSN to announce an unanticipated starting QB change? Personally I think it worked out better that way as it created instant turmoil and intrigue for the talking heads and pxp crew to sort out.
For the messiah commenters if they want to accuse Reilly of anything then denounce him for being a competitor, the sort of competitor that he had to be to get where he is today. Once these guys suit up they all believe they can play and help the team win and usually will do and say anything to convince coaches they should be on the field. Maybe Campbell or Maksymic should have paid more attention to Reilly warming up to see that he wasn't right and made that call instead of waiting for him to say he wasn't good to start. For someone uberly competitive, as all players are, that had to be very humbling for Reilly to tell Campbell he should sit.

No argument there--that's the problem. He is a competitor to the point of it being ridiculous--on Friday did anyone want to see a QB who was too injured to perform adequately? The Lions convinced themselves he was able, having no evidence through ONE MONTH leading up to this game. In a Grey Cup you put it all on the line--best example I can think of is Dunigan in 1991. He was hurting with multiple injuries.Hambone wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 11:40 am For the messiah commenters if they want to accuse Reilly of anything then denounce him for being a competitor, the sort of competitor that he had to be to get where he is today. We are talking about game 1 of a 14 game season. He should have stuck to helping Rourke on the sidelines using the tablet--that is invaluable and the best use of his experience and competitive nature. Tendonitis of the elbow is not going to clear up overnight. The Riders D got a few solid hits on that arm--they are just doing their job, exploiting a weakness. CGY will do the same.

Ford only punted and held on placekicks. Yamasaki handled the KO chores averaging 49.8 overall including the 9 yard onside kick. He averaged 63.3 on the 3 normal kickoffs which is not at all out of the normal range one would expect. Lauther averaged 63.6 on his 5 KOs.maxlion wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 10:04 pm Lots of heart by Lions. Defence really played well after a terrible start. Rourke and Reilly made it exciting. Lots to build on, I think.
Ford looked good on punts and kickoffs. Yamasaki had a tough game. Really blew it when it counted, first on the missed FG, then missed convert, then awful onside kick. It will be interesting to see what the Lions do there.

Thanks for the correction. As has been mentioned on this thread, Yamasaki seems to have pretty good leg strength. Hopefully his gaffes in this game were just nerves and he can be more accurate on field goals and converts moving forward.Hambone wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 11:22 amFord only punted and held on placekicks. Tools are all there. Just need a couple more games to find out if the toolbox is there too.maxlion wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 1:44 pm Thanks for the correction. Whenever I get worried about a rookie after only 1 or 2 games I harken back to sitting in Commonwealth very early in the season watching BC with a rookie CB who looked just awful. I thought Buono would cut him and leave him in Edmonton. But Wally stuck with what they believed from training camp and scouting and started him the next game. Dante Marsh turned out pretty good.
I think Campbell and McEvoy believe in what they saw in Yamasaki while scouting him and through camp. If they didn't they would have brought a second placekicker to camp. They will stick with him for now. The one thing with kickers is another one is only a phone call away and can be instantly inserted into the lineup Covid protocols permitting of course.

Yamasaki was consistent and unflappable throughout training camp. When he missed, it wasn't by much. K/P Stefan Flintoft from UCLA is still on the practice roster. He was the best dual option kicker in camp and I thought he was a more consistent punter than Ford but the latter improved by end of the team's stay in Kamloops.Hambone wrote: Tue Aug 10, 2021 5:17 pmTools are all there. Yamasaki was up against having zero cfl experience, had no pre-season, a rabid sold out noisy crowd, and an always windy Mosaic Stadium.
I spent a month in Regina once; the only time the wind stopped blowing was to change direction.

why should the teams care about betting. the teams only concern should be football performanceHambone wrote: Mon Aug 02, 2021 4:54 pmIt's all about the single game sports betting. Injury transperancy. Teams have to let the bettors know exactly who is hurting, what is hurting, their level of practice participation is etc so the bettors can make an informed decision when placing their wagers.BC 1988 wrote: Mon Aug 02, 2021 4:43 pm Does this injury report officially take Reilly out of the lineup for Friday? Agreed. If gamblers are placing bets based on the participation or non-participation of a player who is listed as questionable, as Reilly was, that's on them.KnowItAll wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 1:09 pm why should the teams care about betting. the teams only concern should be football performance
