Vancouver #1 for the worst traffic congestion in Canada

I love my city of birth. But I do kind of regret the way it has caught the attention of the world.

Well said. It breaks my heart though to see people who were born here priced right out of the market. Houses are ridiculous. What buys a shack here will often buy a mansion in other parts of the country and usually 2 mansions in many parts of the US and the more of us that live here, the more we damage the things that intrinsically made this city a great place to live.

Well said. It breaks my heart though to see people who were born here priced right out of the market. Houses are ridiculous. What buys a shack here will often buy a mansion in other parts of the country and usually 2 mansions in many parts of the US and the more of us that live here, the more we damage the things that intrinsically made this city a great place to live.

What's very bad is that unlike other cities that have high real estate prices such as the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and maybe even Seattle and Toronto in which there's at least a somewhat proportionate higher high-paying job opportunities - i.e. high real estate = high amount of high paying jobs, that's not the case with Vancouver. High real estate is mostly because of foreign investment, and Vancouver is not the best city for young professionals as....assuming you get a decent job....it's not nearly enough to buy a standard home in the city and understandably there's an exodus for university graduates to other cities like those four above.

Along with Vancouver having the worst traffic congestion and the highest real estate prices in the country, it also has the highest rent as well for a one 1 bedroom apartment.

For those who are starting their careers and who do not have their own homes and must rent, it does make sense to go to places like Calgary where the rent is less than half of that of Vancouver, while income is comparable. There's absolutely no way that Vancouver's income is twice of that of Calgary for the same occupation, and Calgary has lower sales tax as well.
