If you think Chap would work for Mike, I have a bridge that I'd like to sell you.
Completely understandable if he does decide to depart. If I had a CIS opening he'd be the first guy I'd call.
I agree. And he had great success at Laval previously.

At one time, Jacques was apparently ahead of Mike Benevides in the pecking order with the Lions. Then he had the misfortune to listen to the recruiting efforts of Danny Maciocia, a guy I thought was in way over his head in Edmonton. IMO Maciocia had that pooch totally screwed in Edmonton, and it was easy enough for him to save his own career, for a couple more years by throwing Jacques to the wolves. After his departure, it was unlikely that Jacques would ever move back up the pecking order with Wally all the way to the top.

We are hearing suggestions that Jacques will not stay with Mike B as Head Coach. I would hope that is not true. I thought both of them did outstanding jobs from about Game 6, 7, and 8 onwards.

I can see Chap leaving for a HC job elsewhere but I think he will stay, if Benevedes is named the HC and wait for the next opportunity.

Chap didn't help himself when he left Wally in the lurch and bolted to Edmonton..Wally initially was not going to have him back after he was fired in Edmonton but was convinced by a small group of B.C. players.

Chap was dismal as an offensive coordinator from 2008 -2010 and he was still stuck in his old ways for the first part of the season.

I thought Chap was the best offensive coordinator in the league as we turned the corner. It was amazing to see the changes he made to our offence along the way of our winning streak and playoff run.

If Chap continues in his present trend next season there is a good chance there will be a HC possibility for him. I doubt that he will be too pleased to hear Benevedes got the HC job but he would be wise to bide his time, if a HC opportunity in Hamilton or Saskatchewan does not happen for him next year and be patient, staying in his present position as OC and perhaps being named Associate HC.

When Chaps developed a running game, our offence was as "sexy" and creative as anyone's in the league...I think the biggest issue with Chapdelaine has been the timing of his play calling...and after the win in Edmonton 36-1 and the development of a running game, he seemed to relax and start calling a better game plan...this year's success will only help his own confidence and to trust his own intuition.

I don't think many here will shed any tears if that's the way it plays out. After all the majority of patrons here have been crying for Chap's butt on a platter for the past 3 years or more.

Good topic BTW. :good:

My first choice would be DD as HC, because as others point out if we lose him now we'll probably regret it later. Honestly if you were to say "who has the better long-term prospects as an HC in the League between DD or MB?" I think DD would win in a landslide. But, as it seems likely MB is going to HC; I wouldn't mind if Greg Marshall got offered MB's old job as DC.

If Chaps goes in the process that's fine by me. My memory is long enough to remember what a disaster he is as an OC for the most part. The vast majority of what Chaps tried to do here in BC hurt the team very much IMO. The term "Chapball" didn't originate here at lionbackers to decribe what a great football mind he has.

Why would JChap stay in a position where he is a) not the boss, b) working for a dude of similar age that could run with the ball for the next 12-15 years and c) stay subjected to more one year contracts? Odds are, he won't; Jacques will try and get a Head job elsewhere (be it CFL or CIS).
With the exception of "b" , it's been the same every year. This off season is no different other than a new boss.

True and it would just about be fitting for JC to finally step up to the plate and leave the Lions. Can't blame him on finding his own gig, if that is what plays out. However if he bides his time here in BC, he may be able to turn his OC position into a CFL HC job if he maintains an offense that is successful.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have been granted permission to speak to Benevides about their head coaching position.
