Re: Will Buck Pierce be looking for Revenge in Grey Cup?
No pro worth his salt would enter a championship game with anything more on his mind than to prepare as best he can to play to the absolute best of his ability and do everything he can to help his club. Be victorious. Yes for some there might be a little extra satisfaction after the game is over but until then they wouldn't give it a second of thought. Really Pierce has nothing to be vengeful about. His tenure with BC ended sooner than he'd like but the ZLions had little choice in the matter. Buck would probably be the first to admit as much and holds absolutely no grudge. As WCJ said revennge is for losers and Buck is certainly no loser.

If it's about revenge, how about Mike Gray? The Lions decided not to protect him in the equalization draft after 1986. He was selected by Ottawa who then sent him to Winnipeg and two years later, he did manage to get revenge.

That said, the Lions have a chance for vengeance 23 years later. However, I think Roy Shivers, Bill Reichelt, and Kato Kasuya are the only members from that team.

Pierce won't have revenge on his mind. Playing against the Lions will be more than enough to cope with. The Lions are in their home field and have been playing extremely well.
I think Bomber chances would have been greater playing in any other city, but that's the way it is in 2011. On the positive side, I get to go to the game locally and enjoy all the festivities.
With game indoors, there will be no weather to deal with and we should see an entertaining game.

I've always liked and respected Buck Pierce. I also always felt that he could be an MOP candidate if he could stay healthy for an entire year. When he left, I wished him nothing but the best. It was time to move on and he was given an opportunity elsewhere which he has now seized. I check for Buck when he's not playing against the Lions.
I don't think there is a revenge factor here as it seemed to have been a mutual parting of the ways. Buck did everything that was asked of him while playing for the Lions. I think the fans appreciated his heart and willingness to compete. The problem was his health.
So no, revenge isn't an issue. May be the best team win.

I think Buck better being worrying about protecting himself...this Defence will eat him for lunch...I highly doubt he makes it out of the 1st half...
The key to the Grey Cup game will be us having a semblance of a running game, and us shutting down theirs...force the Bombers to throw 30+ passes, and it will get ugly early...

Buck won't be looking for revenge, he'll be looking for his teeth.
If I worked in adult movies my name would be Buck Pierce.

Re: Will Buck Pierce be looking for Revenge in Grey Cup?
Buck is a great guy and that is why I certainly wouldn't expect it from him.
The truth of the matter is that if he didn't have the penchant for getting injured as he does, he would likely still be our number 1 QB to this day. No one wanted Buck gone because of his talent, locker room presence or any of the reasons you might reasonably thing a young player might get released. In the end, there were two reasons why he was let go. One was that the team couldn't afford to take any more chances on having Buck injured, two was the concern for Buck's health as a person.
There comes a point where you as a coach, GM, owner look at a player and despite your personal regard for the man, are unwilling to engage in the process by which you think a person is going to get hurt. I guess the short version of that is not wanting the burden of guilt by allowing someone to carry on because of the strong belief that they are going to do permanent damage to themselves. It was the same with Dave Dickenson. As it happens, Buck has continued to be injured but fortunately not of the concussion variety. It bears out the reasons we released him and in all honesty, I think a lot of people around the league still think that he is at risk and that it is only a matter of time before he gets concussed again. Every time he gets hit, people hold their breath.
He won't seek revenge, he has no reason to. The Lions started his career and let him go when they thought he was too much of a risk to the team and himself. They did however give him the opportunity to seek elsewhere and have a chance which he is making the most of.

Both totally class guys. One of the first people to text Travis Lulay after the B.C Lions won the Canadian Football League’s West final on Sunday was his old mentor and current rival, Buck Pierce.
“We keep in contact, just wishing each other well every week,” Pierce said after the Winnipeg Blue Bombers landed at the Vancouver airport on Tuesday night, returning to the city that gave him his professional shot, the city he hopes to disappoint by winning Sunday’s CFL championship.
The two quarterbacks became fast friends when Lulay joined the Lions in 2009, perhaps each seeing in the other bits of himself. There are many common threads.
Both very athletic. Each is athletic, Pierce was a champion long jumper in high school as well as a standout point guard on the basketball court. At the 2006 NFL combine, Lulay led all quarterbacks in the short-shuttle drill and was in the top three in the three-cone, long jump and vertical.
Yes. They do represent the league.“I have a lot of respect for Travis, the way he handles himself in the community and as a person representing this league,” Pierce said. “We’re both truly happy Sunday’s game is against each other.”
Yes. Both lay it on the line.“I think their personalities are different, their temperaments are slightly different, but the thing that everybody would attest to is that both would put it all on the line in any game and every game,” Buono said.
Yes. Too often injured.“It wasn’t that we let Buck go because he was a bad quarterback or because he was a bad person, it was just the injuries, you know, to the quarterback position,” the coach/GM said.
Revenge is not a factor for a class guy like Buck.“It’s a good feeling for me to come back here and play a championship game in the city where I started my career,” Pierce said.
“I have a lot of friends here still. I have good feelings toward the whole Lions organization and just happy to have the opportunity to come here and play for a championship against a former team.”

Buck Pierce was devastated of course but accepted defeat like a gentleman and congratulated his QB counterpart.

That is a great picture, Robbie. The embrace after the game. Two completely classy guys. We have been lucky and blessed to have them play here in B.C. Buck and Travis. Friends for life.

Re: Will Buck Pierce be looking for Revenge in Grey Cup?
Buck was in tough to win this one today in front of a hostile crowd. Better luck next year to a class act.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

I am happy for the BC Lions and their fans but it is hard not to be cheering for Buck.
During the game the clip of Lulay speaking of Buck and their common backgrounds says it all.
The respect is there. Too bad for Buck he doesn't have the BC offense and the play calling. I think Lapo needs to let go of the calling and do his HC job.
