Short answer is NO. Lions aren't going to turn the season around. Too much problems to fix in a bye week.

Tired of Geroy defending the coaches. Isn't he one of the receivers that went to Buono to bring back Chapdelaine after Buono publicly stated that there is no opening for an assistant coach ? Careful what you wish for.

But, if you are looking at a clearly stat basis, it has worked out well.

I tend to think that this season is lost as the execution and adjustments are to slow. The comment about the Saskatchewan and Edmonton transformations are very valid, and I think are the best alternative.

Good question..... CAN THIS SEASON BE SALVAGED?

Here is a Kamau Peterson quote from todays province paper ( Aug 17 article by LU );

" I choose my words carefully for a reason.
Its not going to make a difference anyway.
Everybody's leash is a different length and I knew that when I came here.
If I squandered an opportunity, so be it. "

Hmm. If this is a seasonsed vets mind set then Lions troubles are deeper than I thought.
“It just shows,” he said to the reporters, “that you guys don’t always see what you think you see.”

I think he's referring to the fact that the club is going with Paris over Kamau for the Edmonton game (SOURCE: NEWS1130). I think this is the right thing to do. Guys have to be accountable and you simply can't drop an easy pass in the red zone (and 2nd drop in as many games). I also like the emotional edge that Paris can bring for his teammates. :thup:

Yes agreed on the PJ insertion (as long as his knee is OK) as to his remarks .

However I was surprised to read;

Are things so bad he doesnt want to be there?

No, I think the context of the quote in LU's article was that Wally told him he might have lost his opportunity to stick with the club and have his contract guaranteed for the rest of the year.
Miffed over a dropped pass by the 33-year-old receiver in the second quarter of their 30-17 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, coach/GM Wally Buono had Peterson in a reserve role at practice Tuesday, and there is every reason to think it will result in a chance for Paris Jackson to return to the lineup when the Lions play Ryan Grice-Mullen and the Edmonton Eskimos Friday.

Buono implied that he told Peterson as much, though he also suggested Peterson would not face his former club due to other assignment errors this season.

With CFL teams soon to face the league deadline whereby the contracts of veteran players are guaranteed if they remain on the roster, there's a chance Peterson may have played his last game for the Lions.

Buono will be cautious, however, understanding the fragile state of Jackson's knee could force a change in plans. But behind Jackson on the depth chart is non-import rookie Marco Iannuzzi, who has not played on offence but will continue to be worked in Friday on special teams as a punt returner.
Is Peterson on way out?

I was wondering about Petersen. Looking at how the Eskimos season has played out, would he not be one of the last few signings had he not been on the Lions roster? He had to hang on to that redzone ball. I'm not at all surprised he's getting a lot of blame but there were lots of mistakes made. I think either PJ or Petersen goes before Vets are set for 2011

Re: Lions' ship in rocky waters. Can this season be salvage

Peterson is saying what he is saying as shortly after arriving here Wally announced that he and Paris Jackson were being phased out. Welcome to Wally's world. It is odd behaviour - something we have seen a lot of over the years when he dumps players. The odd thing about this is why sign a guy then immediately announce his phasing out. It is likely to be the same with Arland Bruce. I'd be shocked to see him return to the Lions next year.

What is totally weird with Wally is that he says he is phasing out KP and PJ- older receivers and then goes and gets Arland Bruce the 33 to be a book end for Geroy at 34. Only in Wally's world is logic this twisted. But when you have no one to be accountable to you can do what you want to save your job.

If salvaging the season is another season like last year with next year being a repeat of this season and the last two before this, is it really a good thing for fans?

It is looking like the pressure is mounting in the Lion's den and players are no doubt less happy this year than last.

Trading for a finished Charles Roberts. Good move or just a way to get rid of Joe Smith, who had fallen out of favour with the coach?

This is where it all started for me, where I fell out with Wally, at mid-season 2008 after bringing back the "Chapstick" from Edmonton, against his better judgment precipitating the effective end of our ground attack, so vital to red zone success in third-and-one sort yardage continuity...we never have regained that dominance again to this day.

It was his 1st and most telling sign to me that he had lost touch with how to win, and put our team ahead of his own personal agenda and ego. The rest was academic and a slippery slope downhill, to recover his credibility and command of his career.

Absolutely tragic!
