Chris Perez was a bust, he was always hurt.
For me, two short years (he wasn't even the starter year one I recall) isn't enough to retire a number. If he can't sign a returning contract then the number stays in my opinion.

It looks like a CFL exception example is when it comes to memorium issues. The Saskatchewan Roughriders have retired eight numbers, four of which are:
#40 - Mel Becket
#55 - Mario DeMarco
#56 - Ray Syrnyk
#73 - Gordon Sturtridge
as a good honour and gesture for these players who were killed on Trans-Canada Air Lines Flight 810, on December 9, 1956. Ray Syrnyk only played one season in 1956. As good as it is to honour the dead, perhaps there are better ways to do that. I think even the most die-hard Roughrider fan would agree that those four players do not rank in the same category as the four other players with retired numbers: Ron Lancaster, George Reed, Dave Ridgway, and Roger Aldag.
