What is it intended to mean? Haters of the Canucks? The Lions?

Why don't you offer us some perspective on this?

If you mean the Canucks fans hate the HC or the Lions, I think you would be mistaken. I am sure he got a deservedly warm welcome which would be typical ofds a BC crowd.

My own view would be that the Canucks should honor the Canucks and CFL and avoid playing one of their 40 plus home games on a Lions league game night out of respect for a league which plays 18 plus.

Arnd you say I am out to cause trouble?
I think he's referring to Canuck-hating Lion fans, but those folks are probably not even reading this thread and perhaps weren't aware of the goings-on at GMP anyway.
Sports can be a peculiar thing. When partaking in fiction, like a book or movie, we adopt a "Willing Suspension of Disbelief" for enjoyment's sake. There's a similar force at work in sports: "Willing Suspension of Rationality". If you doubt this, listen to any conversation between rival team fans. You even see it among fans of the same team. Fans argue over who's the better QB or goalie, and selectively cite stats that support their views while ignoring those that don't.

That's exactly the ones I'm referring to - the ones who would never be aware of said goings-on, but would be quick to enter this thread long enough to chastise Orca Bay if Wally WASN'T honored.

BTW, thanks for quoting Toppy - I had him blocked, but of course, the quote mechanism doesn't recognize that. It's good to see that he's just as *MOD EDIT: Personal attack removed* those who chastise the team for the LEAGUE'S scheduling foibles, I count amongst the "haters" as well.

(Yes, I know it's a personal jab - but it's one he's worked long and hard to earn, and I wouldn't want to deprive him of the title.)

The Canucks have been very friendly to their fellow local comrades in terms of congratulating them for their achievements. Pre-game ceremonies were held shortly after the Lions 2006 Grey Cup and the Whitecaps 2008 USL-1 championships.

Well then they should get a load of this:

It's definitely been improving under Aquilini and Gillis. It would appear better support of other local teams is one of the benefits of local ownership.

Brian Burke was a Lion season ticket holder.

Mark Crawford and his coaching staff spent a day at the Lions training facility so they are not the ones I was referring to- just the NHL schedulers who can't seem to avoid CFL game dates in Vancouver - something I just found out I am neurotic about.

Despite the recession and the high price of caps these days, it looks like fans in San Jose are still willing to depart with their expensive hats to celebrate Dany Heatley's hattrick.

Michael Grabner has his chance now. Let's see how he will perform with this rare opportunity to be called up.

With a narrow win tonight, at least it wasn't a total loss today for the city of Vancouver. And for the city of Montreal, thanks to Ottawa, it wasn't a total win either.

Luongo out with a rib fracture doesn't bode very well for the W column, not that I think that Luongo is all that, but he is another brick in the Canuck wall that is missing, just too much to overcome.

Raycroft seems pretty competent. At least he kept the Kings to a 1 goal performance tonight and they have some pretty good young snipers on their team.

Raycroft may just be the answer in net for the Canucks long term, he seems to up to NHL standards and comes at a cost that would allow the Canucks to get some return for Luongo and free up some cap room in the process. That would also allow for the eventual transition of Cory Schneider. Just a thought, but I will qualify that with the factor that I am not nor have I ever been sold on Luongo. He seems to be very good for stretches and that may turn up at playoff time, but for way too many games I see the opposition goalie being the better keeper on the night.
