Until the last few games he had i think 96 pass attempts with no picks...tho one in each of the last two games. like jarious he needs to learn when to just throw the ball away and live to play another day
Only time will tell if BP can stay healthy. One thing we can be certain of, is that on this team, the "other QB" gets his turn sooner or later. Probably a good time for JJ to watch for a bit and gain some perspective from that view.
Yea, poor jarious gets ragged on too much tho. he cant help the play calling. I think both qb's would benefit in a moving pocket as opposed to just standing 5 steps back and waiting to be slaughtered. Tho when you look around the league, there are wat, 3 starters who stay in for the majority of every game, (burris, ray, calvillo) every other team has a carousel, tho i guess toronto isnt included anymore now that they've traded their backup or 1A

I have no idea why Chapdelaine will run more bootlegs and rollouts for Buck than he will for Jarious because both are mobile quarterbacks but Chap just keeps sticking Jarious in the pocket.

I really think this is a great game for Buck to start. First of all, we're underdogs and that will take some of the pressure off. Almost every unit of the squad is not playing well so the pressure won't entirelly be on Buck. We're coming off a loss. Finally, we're on the road, which is a good place for a quarterback to start, when he hasn't started a game for a while. All those factors are good circumstances for a quarterback to start and be aggressive.

I expect Buck to play well. What I'm also happy about is that Buck is challenging deep as well as throwing underneath, where he is usually very accurate. It wil stop teams from crowding his underneath game. Jarious, by watching, will also see that he needs to come underneath more. His underneath game has improved, in terms of accuracy, but he also needs to drop the football off more often.

Buck already has learned to go down faster and I'm not worried about that. At the same time he can't play the game like he's afraid to get hurt and he won't. What Buck has to watch out for is not rolling to his right and trying to throw across his body if it's not wide open. He has a tendancy to do that sometimes and toss it out of bounds.

I'm looking forward to watching Buck get this start!

Re: Buck Will Start Against Montreal!

When Buck is on his game he is a great QB and I am happy he is starting. Here's hoping he is fully recovered and the D doesn't tee off on him( hopefully our O line and play selection can influence that). I think he see's the field well and has good touch on the ball. JJ has had trouble with touch, and made a few bad decisions, mind you for a guy that can launch the ball a mile he might have been better served if we had a deep threat to take advantage of his strength. Both guys have been classy so well done to both!

yea, its great to see team guys succeed. hence why i would never want printers or bishop here, they both have the tools to be good but neither uses them and then blames everyone else for their shortcommings. Here's hoping that buck can return to his form of 2006.

Both our QBs are classy when they don't get the start because they know they will get another chance in the not to distant future :p

I think it goes beyond that. they both sat behind dickenson/printers and neither ever complained. I think they are just both class guys through and through

As a side note, kahlil hill was reactivated off the practice roster to take injured clarence coleman's spot.

I totally agree!!

Here is an example of a comment about Jarious Jackson from Lowell Ullrich's blog today....

"Jarious Jackson, for example, is a consummate pro, a guy who treats reporters exactly the same win or lose, whether he's a starter or third-stringer". (Lowell Ullrich)

I consider both to have the kind of values you want to see in a leader and the quarterback position is a leadership position. They both want to start but have a very strong sense of team. While both want to start, they don't want it to be due to the poor play of the other guy as much as it would be due to the excellent play of themself. They support each other and also empathize when the other is the backup. If a reporter is critical of one of them....the other will stand up for him.

They are both well liked and respected by their teamates. Buck and Jarious have different strengths and areas of their games that need to be enhanced. Both have similar styles in that they are both very mobile and good runners. One favors the underneath stuff more and the other prefers to throw longer. Both are improving on the areas of their game that need more work.

However, both have really been unbelievably successful when you consider that Jarious has now played about a season worth of games and Buck has even less experience now. Both have had success beyond what one could ever have expected when they were put into the position of starting, when they had no pro experience or very little experience at those times.

I really like them both for different reasons and always want whomever is starting to be very successful. If we can surround them with a decent running attack, some good pass protection to give them time to throw, and a receiving package that doesn't allow teams to cheat they are both not only good enough to get the job done but excel.

I really believe that Buck did not impress in his first game and Jarious has been inconsistent, has less to do about their play than the play of the players surrounding them. When a pass goes incomplete we often blame the quarterback when it could have been a bad read by a receiver, a wrong pattern, an altered route, or poor pass protection and too much pressure. Sometimes they get hit while throwing the football or can't step forward because a tackler is in their face.

When I read posts asking for Printers back or getting Michael Bishop I'm disappointed. For the stage of their careers they are in a as starters, in that context, they have both more than got the job done on most occasions and their records of wins and losses, which is impressive, is a testament, that whatever way it had to get done, most of the time, they've gone out there and played an important role in getting us a "W"!

Wakes: I think you are right about not wanting either guy here but I agree with you for different reasons.

I don't think either of them blame others for their short comings but here's my take as both guys seem to me to be different guys.
I may be wrong but here is my take on this for what it's worth.

Bishop felt when Damon retired he was to be number one. He did what he was asked to do and was patient even when Damon wasn't lighting it up - and then in comes Kerry Joseph. I read that Bishop was more popular on the Argos than is Joseph so that suggests he is okay as a team guy. He didn't handle the Joseph stuff as well as Jackson or Pierce but these two guys are wired very differently. It is great to be like Pierce and Jackson - if we were the world would be a better place - but we are all different and not all of us could take it like Buck or Jarius. It doesn't make us bad people though or necessarily bad team mates.

Casey Printers for all the talk since he left was always regarded as a good team guy. In those days, I went to lots of practices and even when it was clear he was not that happy and on the outs with Jacque Chapdelaine, he didn't let it spill over to the team. He is as large as life and he is wired differently but he was never considered a bad team mate.

I think neither of these guys would be a fit in BC but not because of their characters.

Did I miss something in this as I can't really for the life of me think of situations where these guys blamed others.

Hey, Henry Burris used to blame the offensive system and complex plays under Burratto even when he screwed up a five yard pass!!! Kent Austin as a QB didn't shoulder blame easily either but he was a great QB and a very good HC - although we have just one year to judge. I thought he was good as Argos OC but Pinball didn't and gassed him.

I can't think of others right now who blame others at that spot but there could be more.

yea, i can see your point, tho i wasnt impressed with bishops parting shots towards the argo's. Not that i like the argo's in any way it was just disappointing to see him spit on last insult before he left. I understand that whole being mad when a lesser person takes a job that you are more qualified for, unfortunatly that happens every day. Bishop did do a good job when called upon last year, as he lead his team to an 11-1 record with him as the starter, one thing that has plauged him is injuries at the worst possible time. thats what took him out last year and i belive the year before as well. I can also see toronto as being the hardest team in the CFL for a player to play for. They seem to love bringing in stars and controversial players. Really the argos are the Bengals of the CFL, bringing in guys who have worn out their welcome everywhere else (Ricky Williams). Management seems content to make a splash if they get and "star" guy who will get ppl to the stadium regardless of how it will affect the rest of the team. But bishop is a lot like jarious, huge arm, penchant for throwing picks at bad times. He just seems to pout too much on the sidelines. Id say if you are unhappy with your position, ask for your release instead of pouting on the sidelines.
