Benevides will take over from Wally when he moves upstairs full time.

I absolutely think the world of Dave Ritchie and the job he has done as our defensive coordinator of our Leos. He's been the most innovative defensive coach in the league his last two seasons and a trend setter in defending the spread offence.

He turned our passive 2004 defense into an aggressive, dynamic defense that created turnovers like crazy. His defense was the reason we mainl won the Grey Cup last season as almost everyone on the defense scored a touchdown. He will be missed a lot by our team when he 'retires' because he was respected and liked at the same time.

Benevedes has learned a lot from coaching in Ritchie's defensive system and has done an excellent job with the linebackers himself. Benevedes is a good judge of talent, a very hard worker and loyal assistant, and has paid his dues. We could also go with two co-defensive coordinators with Benevedes and Roach but not sure if Roach would want it at this stage.

As for the future Head Coach of our Leos, when Wally does hang them up, my bet is that it will be either Benevedes or Hufnagel...depending on how much time Benevedes has had as our defensive coordinator and whether Hufnagel would be interested in the position. Mike Roach will also be still here to add a veteran presence but we'll have to find someone to coach the defensive backs.

Richard Wade is a great scout who has also done a lot of coaching and he could be brought in as an assistant coach in the future, if that was his inclination rather than personell.
"When I went to Catholic high school in Philadelphia, we just had one coach for football and basketball. He took all of us who turned out and had us run through a forest. The ones who ran into the trees were on the football team". (George Raveling)

I couldn't believe it when he came (it wasn't as Defensive Coordinator but it quickly evolved into that title). I think he just wants more kicks at the can as Head Coach. Nothing more, nothing less but I feel we've gotten our moneys worth outta him.

Thankyou Ritchie for all you've done for our team.
He created one of the most feared defences in the league. If he does retire, he will be greatly missed.

Does anyone know how bad Dave's knee is? I listened to the game on 1040 and didn't see the hit. His grandkids want to make sure he is ok. I'm sure if it was serious Sharon would have called us.
Sloppy game but a big win.
As for retirement, that is his plan after we win the GC. But remember plans change. If a HC gig opens up I'm sure that he would be interested.

I have the game recorded, I'll post some video, although there's no sound. I can tell you that when Armitage announced Wally had come over to him and wanted him to tell Dave's wife he was okay, it drew a collective "Awwww!" from all the women at the table :)

Don't let his age fool you, Dave Ritchie is one tough mother. He'll be back on the sidelines next week as if nothing happened fired up as he usually is. I love Coach Ritchie!

Thanks for the video. My wife talked to her dad today. He's alittle nicked up and sore but looking ahead to the home half of the series.

Awesome! Good to hear!

Is it too late to nominate Ritchie as Warrior of the Game? :)

The guys on Team 1040 gave him the Athletic Performer of the game on the post-game show.
