Regular season home opener ticket count

On the BCTV sports broadcast he said they were expecting 40,000 for the home opener. That seems a little optimistic, but there seems to be more interest in the Lions this year...

Glen Suitor was on Sportstalk with Dan Russell last week and said the Argos were expecting 40,000 for their home opener.....and just over 29,000 showed. (still, considering where the Argos were just a few short years ago and this is still an impressive number. Let's not lose sight of the fact that Mr. Timecount Violation himself turned Lions fans away in droves).

I actually think this strategy of baiting the public with news of a potentially big crowd for the home opener a sound one for this market. Unequivocally, Vancouver an "event town." People here are motivated by hype. So if you get the word out that 40,000 is expected, then the ticket buying public will respond in kind - even if the projection has been somewhat inflated.

I would hope to see a lot of media advertising starting this Monday.

I don't know where Suitor got his information from about the Argo home opening crowd as everyone in southern Ontario expected a crowd in the 27k-30k range.

While it is still better than the alternatives, Team1040 is excruciatingly bad from morning, noon and night. The morning show is so drab and boring it ain't funny. The station's entire on-air crew is incompetant, ill-informed and amateurish, (with exception of the Canucks crew they inherited from NW). But they probably work for cheap, which at least makes their owner smile.

I agree. Those guys are dullards of the highest order. The best morning sports guy in the business in the region is Mitch Levy at KJR in Seattle. Smart, funny, savvy, a good interviewer and a fantastic story teller. He wipes the floor with the TEAM snooz-a-thonners.

The now annual players selling ticket packages (2nd) for the home opener at the PNE grounds should help raise some positive angles to promoting this game along with a large crowd.

That is one sweet deal for $30 — 2 tickets, 2 PNE passes, mini donuts & coffee and a Province newspaper featuring the Blitz section. To top it off, Clermont and Johnson on hand to sign autographs

Just got back from the ticket blitz. Their was a steady stream of cars. At 9:00 they had doubled last years sale. Talked a while with Scotty and Guillio. Loo was working. A dozen or so Felions were causing accidents, I mean directing traffic. Jason and Brent were only their for the first 2 hours. Big success all around. Cudos to the marketing department. BB

I would expect the number to spike when the Esks get into town Thursday, and the match-ups/hype/trash talk really kicks into high gear.

If the weather cools slightly - like it's expected to, I don't think 36,000 is unrealistic.

I'd like to believe it, but I checked Ticketmaster and there are lots of seats left in all categories, and no bronze seats on sale in Level 4. That means they're still configured for a maximum of 33,000. Pratt and Taylor had Wally on today (great interview, BTW), and they said they're hoping for a crowd in the range of 32,000 to 33,000. That seems more realistic. Also, remember to deduct 3,000 from all pre-sales figures to account for the group tickets sitting behind the counter in 7-Eleven stores.

Going by past years' experience, if pre-sales are 32,000 on Thursday, then that's roughly the size of crowd that can be expected to show up.

Don't forget that would includ those 7-eleven tickets someone mentioned. It would be nice to have near 35 thousand, but never are the butts in the seats as advertised.
