Yes, #1 Lions fan in Sask, the facts are very inconsistent. One report has him taking a double dose of painkillers plus a muscle relaxant and was acting loopy at work...so they sent him home. Another report has him taking a double dose of muscle relaxants, while another report had him mixing two different painkillers, which the judge admonished him for. Since he knew he was guilty, why did he wait a year to confess? He could of done that last year and all this would be ancient history. I guess Cal had him pegged as a "red-haired pissant" way back then.
Hey, JohnHenry, don't sugarcoat it. Tell us what you really think. Ha ha

I'm no fan of Tillman's although I liked the job he did with the Lions, and he has had success elsewhere as well. But I would not wish his situation on anyone. It would be bad karma to have such evil intent for anyone.

Still awaiting word out of Regina ...

I suspect it is about as tough a decision as those guys could face. Obviously they would like to keep him as GM, but are wondering about the fallout if they do. And would the downside be manageable if they kept him?

The Riders had a bit of a renegade reputation going back to the Roy Shivers era: players out of control in the community. If they kept Tillman, this would support that image: looking for football success at any cost. Even if they kept him, I suspect the fallout across the nation would eventually force them to let him go.

I'm not suggesting people don't deserve forgiveness, or a second chance. But some jobs demand a reputation beyond reproach as well, and the GM of the Riders, that hallowed franchise and community icon, is one of those jobs. IMO.

Let go, or quit but that detail is not clear yet.

It doesn't look like it's on the web yet.

A contrite Tillman said outside court that he hoped his actions wouldn't cost him his job.
That has to kind of indicate that the board made the final decision and cut ties with the potential PR problems that would arise.

Carefull about mentioning the karma word on this site.
There is no such thing as karma; superstition is for the uneducated. He asked who we want to play if we beat Montreal; he's not looking past Montreal. I'd rather play Saskatchewan.

Even if the board, for altruistic reasons: forgiveness, second chance, rehabilition, etc., decided to keep him on, it would not work because of PR problems.

The appearance of condoning his actions, the appearance of wanting to keep an able GM weighing more heavily than misgivings about his conduct, the never-ending distractions of what happened, the damage to the image of the cherished Rider brand, the negative publicity that would always be associated with his name, the difficulty his continued presence would cause for the girl and her family. I suspect even his supporters would eventually feel that he had to move on.

Hopefully the girl and her family can heal and get on with their lives. I expect the Riders franchise will not be damaged overly much. Tillman may be facing a very difficult time landing a top football job, for a long time, possibly forever.

I think Riders management did what they had to do, not necessarily what they wanted to do.

Gentlemen, beware the 15 seconds of lunacy. Beware the landmines. Absorb the lessons of this tragedy into your DNA, to help keep you out of trouble.
............

Should a CFL team give him a second chance? Now? Later? Dunno ...

Is the southern U.S. far enough away for a school to give him a chance? Are they football-mad enough to risk any PR backlash? Possibly.

The Argos are chaotic enough in their decision-making to do any kind of questionable thing. Legal troubles don't seem to scare them away from players. The Bombers franchise has been stumbling badly in their decision-making lately. Would they give him a chance?

I guess the Tillman story has some chapters still to be written ...

From a personal PR perspective, he needs to enrol in some kind rehabilitation program, and develop more sympathy for the "medication" aspect of what happened.

Rehab first. I expect he might get a decent severance package from the Riders to tide him over ... (not sure since it seems the Riders did bring in that morals/conduct clause into their contracts)
