That's just a stupid comment. The "egg" wouldn't be on Vanoc's or Campbell's face...it would be on BC and Canada as a whole.

If you don't like the Olympics, whatever, but do you really want to see the province embarrassed, because that is what would happen.

PS. it was the NDP that started the olympic bid, not Campbell.

If you want embarrassment just check our highway or 19th century liquor sales "system"s.

It was a weird site, seeing it upclose on Skytrain as you round the corner from Main St Station and towards Stadium. I also decided to take a more panoramic view of it from the the corner of Broadway and Manitoba. Then chatting with the bartender at TC Lions Pub during the Seahawks game about it.

From the News 1130 Web Site:

More tears in BC Place roof
January 07, 2007 - 9:55 pm
By: Katharine Kitts

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) - Last night's windstorm caused several more rips in the teflon roof of BC Place. An earlier gust Friday ripped a large tear in the covering and the entire roof was brought down in a controlled deflation. BC Place General manager Howard Crosley says the Vancouver fire department has been helping riggers navigate around the roof of the damaged stadium. He says water is pooling on the roof and the plugs need to be removed to let the water out. He adds despite having to pump out tens of thousands of litres of water, the stadium, under the roof is in good shape.

Today's Province:
"There were some [new] tears that we believe were caused by the winds and the rain [Friday] evening," Crosley said. "We believe they can be fixed right now, but we need a full assessment and if there is another [patch] piece needed, we will get another one in."
So they may need to fly in another panel? This could get very interesting if the assessment suggests the whole roof needs to be replaced.

It's sure looking more and more that it's not going to last until 2010 which would be beyond its 25-year life expectancy.
Would they spend $30 million on a new one if they are planning to implode it four years from now?

Think of the most financially prudent thing to do in this situation.

Then think of the exact opposite.

That's what they'll do.

(I kid, of course, because I don't live up there.)

I don't think they will have a choice. It's too late to design a new buidling, and there is no where to build one. If the Roof has to be replaced, they will have to do it.

It's still windy today, which won't help matters. Let's all hope for some calm weather, to minimize the damage. :cr:

Without the roof we have no stadium.

Without the stadium, we have no BC Lions.

Nobody wants that!!

If 30 million extra was tossed into the Whitecaps Stadium, with Braley joining in, could it make for a viable alternative for the Lions?

Where are you going to put it, exactly?

Will the site be public transport accessible?

It will not be indoor at that price range.

In the long term, perhaps. But if that 30 million is the money for a new roof if required, then no.

They have to spend whatever it takes to fix the roof right away or the stadium will be damaged by the weather. There is no time to build another stadium in time for the 2007 season for the Lions or the many other functions that will be lost, not to mention the 2010 opening and closing events.

I don't think it will be an issue, however. The roof will likely only need one or two patches and some increased regular maintenance.

News this AM is reporting that the roof sustained one extra hole while it was on its "controlled deflation", and another couple have resulted from the winds on Sunday. With this now taking on more repairs, it may take longer than the two weeks they set as the timeframe initially.
