Regarding the Lions practising mainly at Hjorth Road, I read an article recently saying that the CFLPA had “condemned” the turf at Tom Binnie Park next to the team’s practice facility, so it’s probably a player safety issue. The original turf was installed in 2007 and was supposed to be replaced last year. I don’t know if that was done.

It was amazing to see how much Hamilton moved the pocket last night. With a “drop back “ style passer. Made me jealous.

Interesting BC FAN and that makes sense as this week's walk thru practices on Tuesday and yesterday were at the Surrey facility on the turf where no running was involved. As you noted the budget to replace the turf was approved in June 2023 and the installation was supposed to begin almost immediately. Haven't been out there this year to know of the situation.B.C.FAN wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2024 9:17 pm Regarding the Lions practising mainly at Hjorth Road, I read an article recently saying that the CFLPA had “condemned” the turf at Tom Binnie Park next to the team’s practice facility, so it’s probably a player safety issue. Surrey Now Leader June 22, 2023:
In Whalley, work to replace a synthetic-turf field sometimes used by BC Lions will last a couple months this summer.
The city’s $772,800 project is planned for Field #1 at Tom Binnie Park, adjacent to the grass field at the CFL team’s training facility, off City Parkway.
On June 19 Surrey City Council awarded the turf-replacement contract to AstroTurf West Distributors Ltd., for work from August until October this year, according to a report to the council.

I hadn't seen that article but the turf at Binnie is worn unlike Hjorth Park where the turf is newer.B.C.FAN wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2024 9:17 pm Regarding the Lions practising mainly at Hjorth Road, I read an article recently saying that the CFLPA had “condemned” the turf at Tom Binnie Park next to the team’s practice facility, so it’s probably a player safety issue. Carl Meyer is often on the field next to the Lions field there kicking on his own.
I'm not reading anything into that for the others kickers as being somehow lazy as they have the same net as at games.
BUT, I'd sure like to see Sean W and Flintoft practicing chip shots not for distance but precision - much like in soccer my team always practiced a range of passing including dropping corners to spots we wanted them. This time of year you might want a short kick but I don't think Flintoff is precise enough for my way of thinking.
There's a lack of creativity in this coaching staff in all phases where all you see is REC changing sides or STs huddling off the ball differently and their onside kick in the game they used it is freaking brutal. Who drew that up needs to go to off season coaching school or do some study. That onside kick was awful but you get the same result in games as you see in your practices.
Looking at Chris Jones DEF with the Ticats is interesting. Noel Thorpe with the Als is always interesting. BC Lions - not so much.
Going to be wet from the Skytrain to the Stadium but rain tails off at 6 pm so the walk after should be fine.
I was really looking forward to seeing one of my two CFL favourites as I had this game circled - Tyson Philpot. I think I saw him on the sideline in the last Als Home game with the same contraption Nathan Rourke was using during his similar injury. Ironically, I atypically gave up on the Als in the Grey Cup at the half but texted my friend who claimed they were coming back that if the Als were to win the TD would go be Tyson Philpot as late in the game Austin Mack wasn't going to be open. It was a great TD but I had totally given up on an Als win at the half.
I think Jalen is underused by the Stamps much like we see too little of David Mackie.
As someone on TSN (IIRC it was Dunigan), if BC gets it together they can beat anyone. I'm not sure it's true right now but I'm hoping for a good game.
4pm kickoff takes off the one advantage BC had during AC's era - a 10 pm EST start lol

Add to the list of disappoints the apparent lack of development of Una. Sixth overall pick on 2024 draft and 20 weeks into the season apparently is not ready to dress reguarly as the 6th or 7th lineman for a weak BC offensive line even in a mean nothing affair.Blitz wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2024 2:10 pmWow, one back up offensive lineman for five positions. If a second offensive lineman is hurt, I guess we have to throw a defensive tackle in there. This does not provide me comfort.B.C.FAN wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2024 2:00 pmYes, Andrew Peirson is the only backup offensive lineman on the roster. That's been the norm in recent years. The Lions dressed 2 backup O-linemen 3 times in 18 game this year. Rookie draft pick Anu Una, who has no game experience, was the second backup in 2 of those games.Blitz wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2024 1:16 pm Do we only have one back up offensive lineman going into this game B.C. Fan?
I'm not sure what the Lions will do if an offensive tackle goes down. In most games this year they've had either David Knevel or Chris Schleuger on the roster. They both have experience at tackle. Knevel is on the 6-game injured list and Schleuger is a healthy scratch.![]()
Looking back at tht draft: 4 offensive linemen went in the 1st round. 3rd overall pick Kyle Hergel (Riders, Boston College) cracked the Saints roster. The Ti-Cats took Nathaniel Dumoulin-Duguay (Laval) 7th and he is at least on their active roster as a back-up. The Stamps took Christy Nkanu (Washington State) 8th overall and he is now starting at guard.
Obviously lots of time for Una to develop with 2 years left on his entry deal but it would be nice to see him have a much more significant role in 2025 and take advantage of his rookie salary.

Big play VA strikes again!
Makes the decision to have him just warming the bench for weeks all the more frustrating.

Als blitzing on almost every play and VA is roasting them. What a throw to Berryhill.

Early 2nd quarter and all 5 receivers have at least 1 catch.

Nice to see we aren't the only team that has arrogant coaches that adjust to the other teams strengths? We does Thorpe continue to Blitz and play man? Plays right into our desire of throwing long. The formula on how to beat us, isn't exactly a secret

That was a rushed throw, but Hollins should have made more effort than that for it.
