Uniforms for Sept. 13 game
So it's confirmed, Lions next home game, to celebrate their 70 anniversary, and honour the 2000 Grey Cup team, the Lions are wearing... the gunmetal unis.

Aargh! Please say it's a joke. Having illegible black on black (gunmetal) numbers is the worst uniform idea in Lions history.
My thoughts and prayers are with the announcers, who have trouble getting numbers right at the best of times.

I think the gun metals are a really good look - at least the 2013 version, not quite as big on the latest iteration without the paw and matte helmets (sorry B.C.FAN - I completely respect your point of view).B.C.FAN wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2024 5:17 pm Aargh! My only concern is that we effectively wear all-black at home (much prefer grey pants with black jerseys). Not much difference. I would like to see the club be a little more creative if they're looking for a 3rd uniform in their 70th year. The best they've come up with is the 1976-77 orange retros worn in the 2010 season, and the 1964 road throwbacks worn in the 2009 season.

I LOVE the gun metal third uniform.
Thinking back to those first 2013-gun metal grey uniforms that fans loved, Wally quickly got rid of them. Not only was he not fussy on gun metal grey or stadium roofs open during games on hot summer evenings, or field goals outside the 40 yd line, or rock bands, (he preferred a junior high stage band at half time (they came cheap too), or blitzing or any running play or punt return that was not 'right up the gut!"

Who knows...perhaps if the Leos wore gun metal grey often, I might even become progressive enough to like half time interviews with coaches and players.

The newer gun metal grey uniforms were easier to read players names than the 2013 version. Roar you Lions roar and you will look good in gun metal as you did a couple of times before.

"When I went to Catholic high school in Philadelphia, we just had one coach for football and basketball. He took all of us who turned out and had us run through a forest. The ones who ran into the trees were on the football team". (George Raveling)

I agree that an alternate home jersey should be ORANGE.David wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2024 8:30 pmI think the gun metals are a really good look - at least the 2013 version, not quite as big on the latest iteration without the paw and matte helmets (sorry B.C.FAN - I completely respect your point of view).B.C.FAN wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2024 5:17 pm Aargh! The gunmetals were always an issue with the illegible numbers, which they corrected for the latest home jerseys with the orange numbers.
Pick one or the other uni (blacks or gunmetals), but using both is rather pointless.
Here's a couple suggestions:

Wait a minute, the plot thickens:
from today's email 'Join Us as We Celebrate 70 Years!':
‘the current team will sport a re-design of the fan-favourite Gunmetal Jerseys.’
‘re-design’ – ok I am curious… do they make the numbers read better?
do they just change the crest on shoulders?...

Re: Uniforms for Sept. 13 game
The gunmetals were great even though the numbers were hard to see, but I feel like they are too close to our home blacks now. I rather see a 3rd orange jersey. Like someone said here, the 70s style would be purrfect and the helmets with the orange cage would be purrfect. When they brought them back for 2010, I wish they kept it.
Re: Uniforms for Sept. 13 game
The Lions wore orange when they joined the league in the 1950s and for the dawn of some of their greatest eras as a franchise, including the 1980s and 2000s. That should be the jersey colour to celebrate their 70th anniversary.

Gun-metal orange?

Sorry, don't know how to re quote, but 100% agree with Yukonlion about the helmets.
#1 bring back the center stripes.
#2 find an orange shade similar to the unis
#3 put a logo on the helmet, that people will want to buy merch with.
Don't see alot of merch with that current BC helmet logo. If the fear is repetition with the main logo just below on the shoulder, how about the Lion over the football logo? Heck, I think even the paw would sell more merch than the current BC. It is bland and is not that visible from far away or on TV

David, I too love those 64 roads they wore in 09!
Re: Uniforms for Sept. 13 game
Youd think an orange 3rd jersey would be a no brainer for the September 27th orange shirt day game

Re: Uniforms for Sept. 13 game
I'm n total agreement with a couple things here. But especially for their 70th year, the gun metals seem lazy. Like, they don't have anything to do with their overall history apart from the initial excitement when they first came out. Then add that to the fact they already have mostly black or grey uniforms full time, meaning an orange version would seem way more appropriate, especially since they started with orange jerseys. Also, these newer versions of the "gun metal" seem to lack whatever the originals had. Now they just look like a copy of Hamilton's Greys. The gun metal seems lighter, so they are now just black and grey uniforms. Was this to make the numbers more visible? There's also no sheen like the originals, which also has an effect. The matte helmet is the last thing I care about but it did complete the look.
Lastly, I think the Lions just should move on from these. With the diminishing changes noted above, they aren't much better than all the other teams' weak attempts at following the trend. Edmonton now has an all green uni with green numbers, Hamilton has the same in grey. Sask now has their dark green with green numbers. These Lions versions just don't land like they used to.
And I really feel we need an orange jersey to complete thos set. How many teams do three jerseys where two of them are mostly black? Total missed opportunity in my mind, to have a really solid third with a more classic football uniform look, to contrast their current look.

Re: Uniforms for Sept. 13 game
I just noticed something else they've introduced. Their new "alt logo". The alt logo is the traditional logo we all know as their actual logo, but the BC is a different font and smaller. My first impression is it looks ridiculous. So are they low key phasing out the BC Lion logo?
