Designated import

Also in the Ottawa -Hamilton game, the announcers were making note of #12 Tim White being the designated import and they were keeping count of how many of his allotted 25 plays were remaining.
He was down to two plays, then one by their count.
He was still on the field, when he had supposedly exhausted his allotment.
Isn't it counted by the number of snaps, not by actual touches of the ball, because running a decoy route still affects the play.

He was also on the field for the final field goal, but aren't special teams plays counted separately?

Re: Designated import

As usual TSN announcers do not know the proper ruling 0n the designated import, and they are too cheap to hire a retired referee to help them in the booth.

I am sure Hambone will post and explain the rule to us as he is more knowledgeable than any one from TSN

Re: Designated import

White can play as many plays as they want, but only 23 for Canadian. Sub in for any American any time. Hamilton is going down from 7 to 6 Canadians by doing this. They are also doing it on defense.
Yes, TSN needs to replace announcers.

Re: Designated import

I’m glad I turn the sound off and don’t listen to TSN announcers. White was listed as a nationalized American and designated American against Ottawa. There’s no limit to the number of snaps he could play as a designated American if he replaced another American player when he subbed in on offence. There’s no restriction on special teams.

A nationalized American is a veteran American who can substitute for one of 3 Hamilton designated national player for up to 25 snaps on offence or defence. In theory, White could be on the field for every offensive play. The Lions used Dominique Rhymes that way once last year. He just sat out the opening play.
