He looked solid early in trainng camp but too many mistakes when the real bullets started flying. Despite those mistakes I thought the leash might have been a bit longer. Hopefully Cottoy is good to go otherwise Ravenel is next man up.

Same. I thought they might have given him another opportunity, at least until Cottoy gets back but the catches to targets (%) was alarmingly low.

My issue was more not extending for balls. Alligator arms might be a little harsh, but Berryhill has shown me much more in a shorter amount of time.

The leash was apparently pretty short. Their shortcomings in the red zone Friday featured a number of targets to him including when he went outside instead of inside and VA wasn't happy. The fumble right before half was careless too and killed another promising drive while nearly resulting in a Bomber major.

I did wonder what could happen after Berryhill's impressive debut when Cottoy returns. Maybe they play Eberhardt at Fulgham's slot position and keep Berryhill at wideout? Eberhardt should at least see more targets then.

I also thought Fulgham would get a longer leash. In training camp he showed himself to be an excellent route runner who always got open and caught everything thrown to him. He seemed to have good chemistry with the other receivers and earned the confidence of VA.

I looked up his NFL history and found similar stories of him not living up to promises after early success. Some good practice players have been known to freeze or stiffen up when the lights come on. It looks like Fulgham may fall into that category.

Good analysis B.C. Fan, too many mistakes for a veteran player as mentioned by others, wrong routes, fumbles, and an unwillingness to lay his body out for balls. VA gave him plenty of targets/chances but at the end of the day their are only so many spots and with the emergence of Berryhill it made the decision a little easer, It looked like VA was losing confidence in him to fight for balls. I am sure Winnipeg is looking for receivers and wonder if he was offered a practice spot and refused thinking that he could catch on there or somewhere else,

According to Friday's stats he was targeted 8 times recording 3 catches. 2 and arguably 3 of those targets can't be hung on him. One targeted throw was batted down by a Bomber DL. On one swing pass Adams threw it out of his reach. On that one in the back corner of the end zone Adams was pressured into getting rid of it early. He tossed almost a hail mary ball lofting it high in the air before Fulgham had turned to look for it. He got turned around a bit trying to find it and track it giving Holm opportunity to be in position to shield him from getting to the ball.

Of course there was the fumble and the outside vs inside play. I can't recall the circumstances of the 5th missed target which must have been the one in the endzone early in the game. On the outside vs inside play I felt a bit of solace in that Fulgham immediately recognized that as based on his hand gestures back to Adams as he returned to the huddle. Was that just a one-off or has he been guilty of similar misreads even when not targeted?

A QB and receiver not being on the same page is far from unususal. However the QB in making his throwing decision is often reading the defense as much as his receiver and expecting the receiver to read the same thing. We only react to what we see between the QB and intended target. When breaking down video the coaching staff sees that but they're also looking for what everybody else is doing on the same play. If Fulgham has been making a bunch more bad reads and route adjustments when the ball is thrown elsewhere that could also have greased his own skids.

It's somewhat strange because most of his pre-draft analysis pointed to footspeed and inability to get separation as weaknesses while winning ball battles were strengths. What we've seen seems to be contrary to that analysis.

I'd think that's what would happen. Keep Berryhill at wideout and put either Cottoy or Eberhardt into Fulgham's spot at least until Hatcher's return.

Rick Campbell was asked after practice Monday about the release of Fulgham, and he said the Lions really like Berryhill. Jevon Cottoy was a full participant at practice so it looks like Berryhill will just take over Fulgham’s roster spot, although he is likely to remain a wideout.

I was just looking at the injury report moments ago. It shows Cottoy and Una as full participants but Hladik as DNP due to a thumb issue. As I mentioned previously Berryhill likely stays at Eberhardt's WR spot. That would mean either Eberhardt moves into Fulgham's spot with Cottoy returning to his usual spot or Cottoy moves into Fulgham's spot with Eberhardt staying in Cottoy's spot as he played vs Winnipeg.
