Sayles' salary may have contributed. He was set to make $127.8K hard money including $10K already paid in offseason bonus. He was also slated to get an additional $10K for the first game he suited up for to bring value up to $137.8K. He stood to earn another $6K if he earned some all-star awards.

Henry Burris was the best short-yardage QB in the league when he won a Grey Cup playing for Campbell in Ottawa. They just kept the regular offence on the field, lined up quickly and snapped the ball without allowing the defence to make substitutions and stack the box. I think that’s what Campbell wants from Adams. He only had one short-yardage rep in training camp, but that’s the way they ran it.

The ultra athletic Tre Ford isn't exactly a bruiser at 185. Prukop is 27 pounds heavier going 212. Could be a preference for Jones to have a heavier guy who has proven effective at powering it straight ahead or at getting to the outside. As quick as Ford might be, if he displays a tendency to avoid the heavy thru the A or B gaps in favour of always kicking it out to one of the outside gaps, he could be easier to defend.

My feeling is Jones really wants Ford to focus on the aspects of being a legit dual-threat CFL QB without clouding things by having him worry about running the short yardage offense in addition to that. He's very dangerous when he tucks the ball and runs but really needs a lot of work to develop his passing game that would make him a complete QB.

They have taken a bit of a gamble by cutting Sayles as there was already going to be instability in the backfield with the Lee injury and the departure of JEC. However, as rookies, Kent and Perryman might have been too good to pass up (despite he stellar play Friday, Kent did not have a great game in Calgary). I am delighted with what I've seen from Beaulieu and Rene. Greene going to be that much better as well going into his 3rd year. Can see him subbing in at field corner for Perryman with Rene at safety.

Cutting Sayles was a surprise to me, but then again, maybe not so much of a surprise. When Marcus arrived, I was quite impressed. He had good coverage skills, and he was a really good tackler. Over the years, he seemed to lose a step and his man was often open on the turns with Sayles scrambling to close down the receiver as the ball arrived, more often before he could knock it down. With a premium put on speed in the secondary, coaches must have felt now was time to have that difficult conversation.

I'm attributing the Sayles cut to the talent that's Canadian and the contract perhaps more than diminishing contribution or skills:

But the 29-year-old will now be on the hunt for a new team, just fourth months after signing a two-year extension with the Lions.

The reason: The deepest, most talented crop of Canadian defensive backs that head coach Rick Campbell has ever fielded.

I'd be shocked if he's not signed back in the CFL by somebody.

Looks like after seeing all the cuts, lions thought it was safe enough to drop peirson to PR as well. Looks like packer did indeed pass him on the depth chart.

??? Peirson is still one of nine OL on the active roster. He's not on the PR, at least not yet. Packer may well have passed him on the depth chart. If so Peirson likely gets to be one of the 3 OL who will get stashed on the 1G unless Campbell goes against his usual roster deployment of the past 2 season and dresses 7.

As far as Sayles being cut, I'm thinking that decision was primarily made by DC and former DB Ryan Phillips, with HC Campbell going along with what his DC wanted.

With 2 globals they can go to 12 on PR. 1 global 11.

I think the roster on website is adjusted manually, sometimes they miss guys, they had one or two of the early cuts on there for weeks. During the season they adjust it before Gameday.

Apparently 3 teams reached out to him almost immediately and he quickly settled on the Riders
