Thinking maybe Joe Kapp?
In the 1963 Grey Cup in which the Lions lost 21-10, Joe Kapp went 17-34 for 254 yards and 1 TD pass and 1 interception.
Whereas in the 1964 Grey Cup in which the Lions won 34-24, Joe Kapp actually performed worse with 10-21 for 144 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 interception.

So this goes to show having better QB stats in terms of more completions and passing yards doesn't mean that the team will score more points or win the game.
Continuing on with this trend example, here are the statistics of two other Lions who first lost and then won the Grey Cup - Roy Dewalt and Dave Dickenson.

In the 1983 Grey Cup, Roy Dewalt's passing was 28-47 for 325 YDS, 2 TD, and 1 INT and his offence put on 17 points in the first half but was completely shut out in the second half in a 18-17 loss. And as explained, in the 1985 Grey Cup Roy Dewalk was 14-28 for 394 yards, 3 TD's, and 0 interceptions for a 37-24 win. So even though Dewalt made twice a many completions in the 1983 GC with 28 compared to just 14 in the 1985 GC, no doubt overall his 1985 performance was a huge improvement.

Dave Dickenson started off strong in the 2004 GC for several completions for a quick TD on the first drive of the game and ended up with 18-27 for 201 YDS, 1 TD, 0 INT and also ran for 8/36 YDS and 1 TD but we all know that Lions lost 27-19. Redeeming himself two years later in the 2006 GC, Dickenson was 18-29 for 184 YDS, 0 TD, 0 INT and ran for 6/53 YDS and 0 TD's. So comparing 2004 with 2006, the completions are the same at 18 but in 2004 he passed slightly more at 201 yards to 184 yards, and also threw a touchdown and rushed for another one while in 2006 GC 25-14 win, 19 points came off of Paul McCallum and the single Lions TD by Ian Smart was on a lateral pass that was actually thrown by Buck Pierce. But nevertheless Dickenson was commended with game MVP honours.

So in each of these three cases, there were better statistics by the QB the first time round but the team lost while in his second time round, there were stats that were worse than his first time but the team won and in the case with Dewalt and Dickenson, won MVP. I suppose had there was GC MVP in the 1964, Joe Kapp would have own it despite mediocre stats.

Then it had to be Casey Printers? Wasn't him? Perhaps Dave Dickenson?
We all know that Casey Printers got injured in the 2004 WDF and didn't finish the game, and it's been debated to death as to whether he should have played in the 2004 Grey Cup.
In the 1994 WDF, most Lions fans would remember Danny McManus over Kent Austin simply because McManus engineered the final drive and the final TD. But let's not forget that Kent Austin wasn't too bad either as the starter and put on 21 points on the board before he went down with an injury.

That said, in the memorable 2004 WDF in which the Lions prevailed 27-25 in OT, which Lions QB do you attribute more to the win - Casey Printers or Dave Dickenson? Printers was 19/27, 242 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT and ran once for 18 yards while Dickenson was 9/11, 155 YDS, 1 TD, 0 INT. So overall, Printers had more completions, more yards, and more TD passes but I have a feeling Dickenson received more credit for the win so that's why Buono selected him to start the 2004 GC over the 2004 MOP.

You forgot to mention Matt Dunigan.
In his only playoff run in 1988 as a Lion, he performed well in both the WDSF and WDF by putting a lot of points in the respective 42-18 and 37-19 wins on the road. But in the 1988 GC, he only went 14-32 and threw two costly interceptions.
And quarterbacking the 1991 GC, Matt Dunigan was only 12-29 for 142 yards and the Argonauts only had 7 first downs but was he did complete 2 TD's and 0 interceptions and ran 7 times for 44 yards. Overall, Danny Barrett appeared to have better statistics with 34-56 for 377 YDS, 1 TD, albeit 3 interceptions and he also ran for 9 times for 14 YDS and 1 touchdown while his Stampeders offence produced four times as many first downs at 28. But nevertheless the Argonauts prevailed convincingly 36-21 so in many cases, better stats don't result in wins.

Man Bomber fans are so cocky. Just reading some posts from their forum and they seem to think Saturday will be a cake walk for them. Would really like the see the Lions kick the Bombers in the teeth.
I don't know about the players, but the fans, after all those banjo bowls don't really have teeth. Helps them breath through their mouth, though.

Two Bomber fans were were sitting on their porch discussing how their team was going to destroy our Leos. A dog walks up on the front lawn and takes a seat. It starts to lick himself. One Bomber fan looks to the other and says: “Man, I sure wish I could do that.” The other Bomber fan says: “Maybe if you pet him first.”

The Bombers and Lions have released their final injury reports, and 5 Bomber receivers are listed as questionable for the West Final, while the Lions have ruled out linebackers Ben Hladik and Jack Hinsperger. The good news is that DB Garry Peters practised fully on Thursday and appears to be good to go.
The Bombers listed six players as questionable for the game on Saturday, including receivers Dalton Schoen (ankle), Nic Demski, (ankle), Jeremy Murphy (hip), Greg McCrae (shoulder) and Rasheed Bailey (knee). Defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat (hip) was a full participant the last two days after sitting out on Tuesday but was also listed as questionable.

Four players won’t be available for the Lions, including defensive back Jalon Edwards-Cooper (shoulder), linebackers Jack Hinsperger (head/shoulder) and Ben Hladik (knee) and running back Kienan LaFrance (triceps). Defensive back Garry Peters (knee) practised fully on Thursday and will be available for the game.

O'Shea has a history of fudging injury reports, so I expect answer to "Schoen and Demski questioinable" for Saturday to be a YES, they will play when the game day roster comes out.

I believe the odds are much more in favor that both play too!!

Good call on Schoen given at least questionable status when the depth chart is released today. The Bombers having a closed practice on Thursday allows for them to do that where the Lions have already come clean Hladik is out.

But if Schoen is even questionable why wasn’t his name mentioned in former Winnipeg beat writer and now Bombers media guy Ed Tait’s release yesterday after interviewing O’Shea:
Further to that, here’s O’Shea when asked about the health status of Nic Demski and Rasheed Bailey:

“Nic and Sheed were out there running around today a little bit. Once again, those guys don’t ever need to practice… we’re fine putting them in. But they were out there running around a bit, going through the paces, getting a workout.”

There is definitely loads of respect for the Lions:

The Bombers are first to release their depth chart. Dalton Schoen is out. Fellow receivers Rasheed Bailey, Nic Demski and backup Greg McCrae are listed as game-time decisions. Kick returner Janarion Grant is the only other backup receiver on the roster.

The Lions are going with almost the same starting lineup that finished the WSF. On defence,Josh Woods replaces Ben Hladik at MAC, with Bo Lokombo starting at WILL and Manny Rugamba at SAM, backed up by Quincy Mauger. Sione Teuhema returns from suspension to start at DE. Woody Baron slides inside to his usual DT position. Adrian Greene again starts at safety. Backup linebacker Maxime Rouyer is aded to replace the injured Jack Hinsperger on special teams.

On offence, Alex Hollins again starts at boundary WR, backed up by Lucky Whitehead. Justin McInnis starts at field WR and Taquan Mizzell remains at RB. Backup fullback Dylan St. Pierre is added for special teams.

Interesting to see Moore stays on the roster and Siddiqi is dropped to make room for Teuhema. Moore gives them more interior size and Siddiqi did take a couple of costly penalties last week including roughing the punter that extended a Stamps drive.

A few interesting tidbits from the CFL Game Notes:

- Home teams have won 7 straight CFL post-season games.
- Home teams have 15 of the last 20 playoff games overall.
- Home teams have won 7 of the last 8 West Finals and are 14-6 since 2002.
- B.C. and Winnipeg have met 4 times in the West Final (1983-85, 2022). Each team has won twice.
- Winnipeg has not lost a division final at home in 29 years. They won at home in 2022, 2021, 2011, and 2001. Their last loss was to Baltimore in 1994.
- The last West Division 2nd place club to win the Grey Cup was Saskatchewan in 2013.
- BC will be trying to win the Grey Cup after a 2nd place finish for their first time: (4 wins from 1st, 2 from 3rd)
- The West Final features 20 of the 27 players selected as 2023 West Div. All-Stars (Winnipeg 11, BC 9).

NOTE: The official Game Notes incorrectly stated that Winnipeg advanced to the Grey Cup from second place in 2019. They were third.

I am happier with Moore activated. Thought he played well against the Stamps and had good pursuit on Maier. A bit more size inside. Siddiqi has taken penalties at some woefully inopportune times lately.

Also, no Winston Rose for the Bombers.

The Bomber decision to start Jamal Parker and all-star Demerio Houston over Winston Rose at cornerback appears to be performance-related. All three players practised this week, with Parker reportedly getting the majority of first-team reps opposite Houston. Rose started at the opposite corner the last time these teams met and was beaten on a double move, straight-armed and outrun by Jevon Cottoy for a 70-yard touchdown.
