Menard was totally cheated out of a sack on that long gain for the Als. Total holding by the Montreal lineman.

No one expected an onside kick.

It was a bit of a shocker to hear the kicker say he doesn't know the rules when Logan didn't pick up the ball. That's pretty lousing coaching on something this basic.

Who did Menard beat for his sacks? Was it Jovan?
Menard did beat Jovan consistently most of the game . I believe it was for the sacks too . If not for Darian Durant being such a quick release QB Als would be giving up a lot of sacks . Durant almost always throws away the ball if anyone gets close to him . It's not that they have a great OL , the QB is part of the equation too . Having said that a QB who throws away too many balls , also doesn't generate any offence on those plays either . But the OL gets credit for not giving up sacks , which sometimes can be a meaningless stat.

Bit of a shock that the punter doesn't know he can recover his own kick. The CFL has some complex kicking rules but onside punt recovery isn't one of them.

Kudos to the coaches for lining up Rainy as a rush end instead of a returner on a field goal attempt but Ty Long's lack of knowledge of the punting rules is on the coach.

I was yelling for Long to get downfield and recover the kick. He was just standing in front of the Lions bench around the 40 yard line. When he finally ran downfield, an Als blocker pushed him out of bounds. He apparently didn't know he was eligible to come back in but the whistle blew immediately so he wouldn't have had a chance at that point.

Onside kick recovery is one of the first things a punter should be taught in Canadian football. Bede had a similar situation earlier in the third quarter where the ball bounced into the end zone and Rainey stood over it. Bede hustled down and got to within a yard or two of Rainey before he finally grabbed the ball and took a knee.

They caught the comical aspect of that on the broadcast--with Long talking on the sidelines afterwards about "the American game" and not knowing--but that is disgraceful--coaching needs to make sure players know every rule, especially those ones they stand a good chance of encountering.

It was funny to see Long standing near mid field while his 11 other team mates were downfield covering the kick and watching the coaches and players yelling for him to recover the kick. This one was definitely on the coaches.

That's on Wally's philosophy while other teams are taking advantate of these ST opportunities.

Well hopefully that little oopsie has Long and Simmons hitting the books for a little extra tutoring. Remedial CFL 101?

Make no mistake. Wally runs the special teams for the BC Lions. He is the one directing everything at practice and blowing his whistle. I am not sure exactly what Marcello Simmons is and is not allowed to do.

Rainey even needed to make a special request (plea?) to Wally to be able to block a kick. Looks like he finally let him.

There's no question in my mind, if Long had been alert that he could have snuck downfield and recovered the punt at the goal line. He waited way too long until instructed by the bench, then it became obvious to the Als, who just pushed him out of bounds.
