A team that mostly under achived was epitomized in the WSF as they were as good as or better than the opponent for 3/4 of the game but didn't have the finish and couldn't get it done in the fourth quarter. Yet they gave the Riders a tougher tighter game than Calgary or Hamilton in the playoffs/GC.
Lions did get better with the Logan addition, that solidified the running game beyond expectations, and brought Harris back into play. However, rankings are based upon the entire season, and especially the stats that seem to suggest that the Lions are less than average. Calgary was tenderized by the Lions in the final season game, so much so that I suspect that either of Saskatchewan or BC would have had an easier time against them than they did against one another.

Too bad that the Lions couldn't close out a game that they had in the palm of their hands, yet that isn't uncommon for a Wally Buono based team.

No moving up, as the draft order is reverse of the standings for the non playoff teams, and then reverse order of where each team finished in the playoffs for the playoff contenders, thus Saskatchewan selects last unless they are in violation of the SMS.

BTW, does that mean that the GC would be tarnished, or do they reap the rewards of a GC win regardless of the SMS?

Indeed, this is a very pertinent question. What is the sanction for a team that wins the Grey Cup but violates the salary cap in doing so? I'm sure it won't be much but it certainly begs the question of why would any team that is loading up for a Grey Cup run even worry about a salary cap? Let's use the Riders as an example. They will have made a bundle off having their team in the Grey Cup. What is the disincentive for any team doing this especially when hosting? They can pay the fine, lose the draft pick which isn't often that valuable anyway. I would think that some kind of ban on hosting again for a period of time might be in order or perhaps the next home playoff game that they are scheduled to host, goes to the team they will be facing. That rewards another franchise as well as punishes the offender. Don't know, a fine to a team the like the Riders which appears to be swimming in money is little consequence. Punishments have to have more bite to be effective. Losing a home playoff game and putting your team at a greater disadvantage in the process might cause some thoughtfulness.

Saw that. According to Bodog the Riders are favoured to repeat as champions

How can they make that prediction when they don't even know the makeup of that team ?

Yes they also have key free agents such as Dressler and Sheets.I dont think they will be as hungry and they wont be getting the same breaks along they way again lol.Pressure will be on Benny to keep the home team winning streak going. The draft will be intersting, who goes where and new coaches in Ottawa.

Re: Setting it Straight!

Here is the rub of that scenario though. If by some chance the Lions were to make the Grey Cup next year, then that would be 4 home teams in a row in the Grey Cup. As I've mentioned before, this is not good for the league or the game. True, Vancouver looks a little more attractive than Regina in November but at the heart of all the activity is the game itself. It isn't going to be much of an event if everybody is again thinking that you have one squad with a huge home field advantage. Maybe the Rider experience is the worst case example of this but we have mostly all agreed that this Grey Cup was hardly exciting or the events leading up to it very entertaining. Another one like this might be enough for some to say the CFL is no longer interesting. I know it was a strain for me this season and I have been watching for 40 years. So as much as it pains me to say it, I have come to the conclusion that the Grey Cup would be best served by having two teams that are going to put up a great game regardless of their home. If that turns out to be the Riders fine. The local merchants and service providers can take solace in accepting all the moola that they are want to put down when they are in town.

They have indicated that they are exploring opportunities down south.

Dressler's size will be a mark against him and Sheets' size a mark in his favour when seeking a NFL opportunity.

I dont care what anybody says if you played 3/4 of the game by the end of the season you're going to be bagged! But they still go out there and play their HEARTS out !! I know the Offense does to but if the other team can read and defeat your OC (JC) PLAYS ALMOST EVERY TIME because his plays are SO predictable .. how can you blame the DF!! Come on enough is enough !! DF is NOT TO BLAME we've always had the best defense in the League hands down!!! Someones gotta put it straight !!!
You can make your point as many times as you like. That doesn't make it accurate.

B.C. offensive plays: 1,403
B.C. defensive plays: 1,378

Offensive 1st downs made: 352
Defensive 1st downs allowed: 328

Offensive time of possession: 30:09
Opponent time of possession: 29:51
Now I wonder why they got rid of their OC?????? And where did you get your stats from?? If you post "fact's" you should cite where you found it! :rules: So now you'll see a new Lions! no more blaming the Defense!! :yahoo:

You're telling me you broke down all that info and thats what you came up with? Come on man! Now that everything I said has come to pass, with the firing of OC and hiring Mark Washington as their new DC, MB and Wally know what their doing! I Liked Stubler but Mark Washington is going to bring it, hes got way more advantages now that he worked under great guys like Stubler. To bad they can't get Dave Dickenson back as there OC..

BCFAN backed up his stats and gave you the place where he found it . Why don't you actually prove otherwise if you are going to dispute the facts he gave you , otherwise you are just plain wrong .

I have no idea what the hell you're talking about, but there is absolutely no way the defense was out there for 75% of the time this season. That's absolutely absurd.

To avoid any additional embarrassment, you should probably quit while you're behind.
