Durant (from BC) had a monster year for SFU in Div II ball where they now play - one of the best receiving stats season in all of NCAA football this past year; not sure when he will be CFL draftable (read he was at UNLV before SFU) ?
Yes, I've followed Lemar Durant since he was a high school phenom at Centennial High School, leading the Centaurs to the boys 'AAA' championship....at quarterback! He was offered a scholarship to University of Nevada-Reno, but a knee injury there made him reconsider playing down south and he eventually ended up at SFU.

Lemar was part of a dynamic offense on the hill. He amassed an eye-popping 1,300 receiving yards this past season as a sophomore in an 11 game season. So no, he's not yet eligible for the draft but when he graduates, he's going to garner a lot of interest.

Re: Official CFL Draft Thread for May, 2013

IF - Durant spent 2 years at UNLV - even if he didn't play due to injury - those 2 years may count towards his CFL draft status (the clock starts ticking when you first go to a University, and 4 years later you are CFL draft eligible - is how I understand it works); so - those 2 years + a season at SFU, should mean he would be draftable in the CFL after next year at SFU?

Hadn't heard of this guy before - Duane Forde usually tracks some futures type young Canadian players in his TSN articles; but that type of monster receiving season should have some CFL scouts on notice; and even though it's Div II ball, if he can do that again next season + he has some good measureables (4o time, vertical) to go with pro size - could mean he will draw some NFL interest too.

2013 CFL Draft

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2013 CFL Draft will take place on Monday, May 6, 2013.[1] 52 players will be chosen from among eligible players from Canadian Universities across the country, as well as Canadian players playing in the NCAA.

The Ottawa expansion team was scheduled to pick last in the first four rounds of the 2012 CFL Draft, with selections being limited to NCAA underclassmen.[2] Due to stadium delays, Ottawa will join the Canadian Football League in 2014, and will participate in this year's draft instead.[3][4]

Re: Official CFL Draft Thread for May, 2013

Thanks for the update WCJ.

Lions still sitting pretty good with 6 overall picks and #s 6 & 12 overall - who will they target there?

Read a post from an Als fan saying they would deal their 3rd and 5th overall picks to Ottawa in exchange for #1 next year and some expansion draft favors? - not sure if the CFL would allow this, nor if it makes sense for Ottawa - I guess that would guarantee much better shots at the NCAA Juniors they are allowed to draft this year?

Edmonton and Sasky not exactly sitting good this draft = typical Taman and Tillspin GM moves; the opposite with Montreal and Calgary adding picks - as has been their m.o. over the past number of drafts.

You are welcome, OV.

I would expect an O Lineman, depending on what happens with Kirby Fabien, and possible free agency pickup.

Re: Official CFL Draft Thread for May, 2013

The draft is going to be exciting and I do envision Wally being aggressive in attempting to move up and target the OL from McMaster with one of the first 2 or 3 picks...but right now, FA is a big key for the Leos, and it will also help shape what happens in the draft. It would sure be nice if the Lions could sign Fabien to a deal this year.

Re: Official CFL Draft Thread for May, 2013

Linden Gaydosh DL

6'4" 300, University of Calgary

Ranked #3 overall as of December ...

3. Linden Gaydosh DL Calgary

2012 regular season statistics: 8 games played, 10 solo tackles, 8 assisted tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble

Scouts take: “He’s been on CFL radars for a long time.”

“I think he battled injuries a little bit this past season, but when he was out there he was still the same old guy. Moves very well for his size, he’s strong, powerful and was asked to do some things where he wasn’t going to be getting sacks and filling the stat sheet.”

“Usually makes first contact with an offensive lineman, gets his hands on them and delivers a blow.”

“He does some things where you’re just kind of like ‘wow’ sometimes. There are some plays where he tracks guys down who are 200 pounds lighter than him. You’re just kind of like ‘wow’ this kid can run.”

Stefan Charles DL

6'5" 310

University of Regina

#4 as of December ...

4. Stefan Charles DL Regina

2012 regular season statistics: 4 games played, 5 solo tackles, 6 assisted tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks

Scouts take: “He really didn’t play that much at all this year. Missed four games with a thumb injury that needed surgery. His year was definitely a hard one for him.”

“There aren’t too many kids his size, strength and with his power. He has a lot of natural ability that he hasn’t fully harnessed yet. Still has a lot of upside.”

“He flashes extreme dominance, but sometimes he takes a play off, so he needs to work on his motor.”

Re: CFL Draft Thread for May 6, 2013

So ...

Depending on developments, some needs ...

D Line. IMO we need a strong NI backup to Westerman. Some very promising guys in this year's draft. Gaydosh. Charles.
Many more.

Safety. Bye bye, Cauchy. He made some plays for us. That time is past. We need depth behind LaRose, or even someone in front of him. Ratio issues arise if we can't get NI play here.

O Line. Oh Yeah. If we sign Fabien, we will have a lot of bodies. Somewhere in there one would think we will have a functional pair of NI guards. JonHR. Valli. Norman. Kabongo. Baboulas. Fabien? Draft? Trade? We need two starters, and a couple of backups. We probably have that if Hamster and Valli recover well.

LB. Bye bye, Yurichuk. ST guy. LB reps.

Re: CFL Draft Thread for May 6, 2013

5. Ben D’Aguilar DL McMaster

6'2" 245 DL/LB

2012 regular season statistics: 8 games played, 27 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 12.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble

Scouts take: “There are not too many Canadians that can do the stuff he can do athletically.”

“You just don’t really know where you’re going to play him in the CFL.”

“Some of the production he had this year was schemed up for him.”

“You have to put on your projection hat a little bit and realize that he’s not a finished product yet, but he has all the tools to be a very good player.”

“He might translate better as a pro being around the game constantly and having more time to learn the game. Things don’t always happen for him as fast as they need to right now, but his athleticism can bail him out.”
5) Ben D’Aguilar – 6’2, 235 lbs – McMaster - LB/DE

2011 CIS season: Seven games played, 16 solo tackles, two assisted tackles, two sacks, 1 interception

In seven games in 2011, D'Aguilar registered 16 solo tackles, two assisted tackles, two sacks, 1 interception

2012 CIS East West Bowl: Six solo tackles to lead all defensive players in the game, 1 assisted tackle, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, tied for best broad jump among all participants at 10’1

Scouts take: “He had an awesome game, but you just don’t know where you’re going to play him just yet. He struggles with some football aptitude and instincts. The play happens and it takes a second for him to get going in one direction. Or he just kind of flies towards something that’s not there, but the kid can run. He hasn’t played a lot because of some of these issues I think. He’s explosive and he’s got great size. When you see him run you’re kind of like ‘wow’, you see why he was an NCAA recruit. He had a full ride to Arkansas and there were some issues with him going to a prep school. It wasn’t something he wanted to do. He’s pretty impressive - 238 pounds and ran in the 4.6s. He moves smoother than Frederic Plesius. Plesius didn’t have great instincts, but D’Aguilar is behind him in that regard. He moves well, really good on special teams - he’s physical. They’ve been playing him mostly at defensive end, but you’ll find a way to use him at our level for sure. He looks like a weak side linebacker. When you look at him you don’t think he weighs as much as he does. He’s very muscled up and chiseled. Maybe not as instinctual as [McMaster product] Ray Mariuz, but is a far superior athlete.”

“The kid is such a physical beast. His play may not be indicative, but of all the kids with the physical attributes to compete and contribute in the CFL, that is the guy. If he get things figured out and the game slows down for him, he’s a slam-dunk CFL guy, just because he looks the way he looks and runs the way he runs.”

“Needs to step up and be a top defensive player in the OUA this year.”
Tweener. Might be too small, despite his athleticism. If he can rush the passer though, he will be able to play in the CFL. Not quite as big as Ricky Foley, who can play.

Re: CFL Draft Thread for May 6, 2013

A lot of condescending bull$&it in some of the remarks from some of the CFL "scouts" who comment on these draft prospects - IMO.

Several very good DT AND DE prospects up this draft. Guys who might be able to play - at least as rotation guys if not starters - right away (like Westerman last season).

As far as addressing safety - maybe not some real pure proven stars there, but a lot of Canadian DBs - wether they were corners, D-halfs or true safeties - get tried at safety in the CFL. A number of these types up in this draft: Wade (Acadia), Daly and Cupido (Mac), Chenard from the Q and N. King from the Atlantic - might make good CFL safeties and I think a number of them will be available still in the mid to later rounds.

Sounds more like wishful thinking on behalf of the Als fan. I agree that it doesn't make much sense for Ottawa. I think they'd probably be restricted to taking NCAA underclassmen in those spots if not by draft rule then by practicality. Not sure what would happen if they took an NCAA grad, CIS grad or underclassman and the guy wanted to play in 2013. I think of the 6 NCAA players listed in the top 10 Lokombo (#1), Urban (#9) and McMillan (#10) were redshirted freshman who still have another year left. So why take the 3 and 5 picks if Lokombo is possibly gone and odds are good at least one or both of Urban and McMillan are available at your pick and that 2014 pick is guaranteed to be #1.

6. Andy Mulumba DL Eastern Michigan
6'4" 265

2012 regular season statistics: 12 games played, 27 solo tackles, 46 assisted tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble

Scouts take: “Andy’s a pretty similar athlete to Bo Lokombo, they look very similar, they’re both specimens and extremely well put together.”

“He predominantly plays defensive end, but there is a lot of things he can do like cover running backs out of the backfield.”

“He’ll be able to play any special teams and contribute on defence quickly into his CFL career.”

“He’s a legitimate guy for sure for our league - you could argue he could be the first pick in the draft.”

“Andy’s a very smart player has a 4.0 GPA at Eastern Michigan.”

“He’s a rare Canadian player.”
Rush end size.
