There were CFL Traditions documentaries created for each team in, I want to say, 2003?sj-roc wrote:It's been done already, hasn't it? Apparently they wanted to take a less linear approach this time.dtrain wrote:this doc series should have featured each team for an episode, i'm sure ech team has enough history to make up a good 60 min. doc.

Last year TSN did an excellent 30 minute documentary which I believe was called "The Heart of a Champion" which focused on the Lions 2011 championship run. My only complaint was that it was only 30 minutes as they easily could have added more footage to make it a 60 minutes.
As for Engraved on a Nation, I'll probably watch all of them however I have to admit I'm disappointed there isn't any documentary that has a focus on the Lions. Considering the club history, they easily could have done a documentary on:

- - The Bob Ackles Story
- The Wally Buono Story (both CGY/BC)
- The 1994 Grey Cup (BC vs Baltimore)
- The 2011 Grey Cup (BC comeback from 0-6)
- The 1964 Grey Cup Lions
- The Joe Kapp story
- The Doug Flutie story

Sadly, the one you really do not want to mention is the Mervyn Fernandez story.dtrain wrote:not to mention:

Re: Kudos to the fans of the 7 OTHER teams
My first post after hearing that my rants on the Argo site aren't alone in the CFL world. Firstly we go to Grey Cup every year and I've lost count at 25 or 26 for me. I can remember when few Rider fans would show and they didn't actually fill their stadium either. I've also never heard so much racist crap come out of peoples mouths. In 95 two guys were sitting behind my buddy and I and they were both Rider fans. One guy yells it's going to come down to our N's over their N's. Rider weren't even in the game but the racist coments don't end there. In Calgary my wife and I sat in her parents seasons which they've had since the stadium opened. It happened that the Als had the Stamps side and we were only four rows up. My fater inlaw and brother inlaw sat behind us. Rider fans were all in our section yelling frog this and frog that to the Als. One little crap tells my father inlaw that he'll be dead before the Stamps win another cup. Luckily enough I didn't have to do much as my bro inlaw leaned over while grabbing the goof and said something in his ear. He left well enough alone after that. He was yapping 13th man all game and we all had the last laugh. I know there's some nice Rider fans and hey I've been a drunken fool in Hamilton way too many times to count but get these young Rider fans all hopped up on Pil swill and they can't handle it.
By the way Engraved On A Racist I mean Nation was HORRIBLE. I always knew they were hick but this brought the point home in a huge way. No other teams fans dress up, collect anything CFL related or head on road trip games. Hell it takes us at least four hours to get from North Cowichan to Vancouver to watch the Argos lose every year. haha. We've lived here for ten years now and the Argos haven't won in BC in that time.

Or the Lui Passaglia story or the specialized kicking game in the CFL....
Hopefully there will be more in future years. I realize this is the 100th but if it works have a few every year.....

Re: Kudos to the fans of the 7 OTHER teams
One other issue I wouldn't mind hearing others opinion on.
Was I the only one that thought that Paul McCallum came off looking pretty bad in the 13th Man doc? After the devastating loss in 2004, he was shown being interviewed outside the locker and said he hadn't spoken to his teammates. He said he was too upset to face them. Ok, fine I guess, but I thought they were all in this together? Seems to me that he should have been okay with going into the locker room if only to have people tell him it wasn't his fault.
Second, I thought his comments about the Als championship in 2009 were way out of line. He basically said that the Als got awarded a championship on a penalty. I'm sorry but WTF is he talking about? The game can't end on a penalty. As a kicker he knows that Duval still had to make a pressure packed kick even after the penalty call. To suggest that Montreal somehow didn't earn it is absolutely ludicrous. It sounded even stranger coming from a guy who was four years removed from the Riders and had won a championship with the Lions in 2006/2011.
All in all, I was not impressed by Paul's comments throughout the documentary.
As a side note, I find it rather humorous that Riders fans still seem to think that they would have won the 2004 Western Final had McCallum hit the field goal. Lions still had another possession after that miss and still had to make their own field goal to win it. The Riders didn't lose the game on McCallum's miss. The Lions won the game on O'Mahoney's make.
