I just don't get the need to continually prop up these urban myths they've come to believe out there. Did they do that at BCP in the past? I'm really not sure. Possibly in the dark days 0f 2001/02 when many crowds were down in the 15000 range. It's a rumour that floated around a little bit back then but seems like has been largely forgotten everywhere except out in Saskatchewan. Out there they continue to fiercely defend the rumour as being fact and current practice with the same determination of a 200# Rottweiler protecting his favourite bone.swervynmerv wrote:Living in Saskatchewan and being a Lions fan, I have a different perspective on Rod. I know him personally and he is a real great guy and a very good brodcaster. In this market however; he plays to the Saskatchewan crowd, in particular the "new" younger fan who does not know the years of brutal play the Riders were known for over the course of most of their history.
Calling the Riders "Canada"s Team", when in fact the only people who cheer for them are Saskatchewan people, those at home and those who have moved to other provinces( in large droves in the 80's and 90's) and playing the "us" against "them" card is part of the new Saskatchewam mentality after being the poor step-child for so many years.
It used to bug me alot but now I just take it with a grain of salt. What can you expect from a fan base that has only won 3 Grey Cups in 102 years!!
I was going to suggest if this was 1600AD he'd be still promoting the world being flat but then I remembed out there that really is true.
