It's nearly June and D-line Coach still not announced?!?

:dizzy:

Other teams announced their "Guest Coaches" for training camp some time ago. Meanwhile, we're just a week away from the start of the main camp and we still haven't identified a replacement for Rich Stubler. WTF??

Initially Wally said he had NFL pedigree and that it was going to be announced later, but I never thought it would be this late.

If they've been left standing at the alter, maybe Gary Etcheverry would be a good candidate. He just resigned from the Riders. Didn't he live here year 'round before taking the Riders' gig?

Hasn't Wally been trying to go the discount route with his D Line coach? Part time? Low pay? Good luck with that.

Buono said he’s “toying with the idea” of a linebacker-dominated defence. "You’d have to say the quality of our defence, at this point, is our import and non-import linebackers,” Buono says. “If we can’t find an outstanding defensive end, then we’d have to structure a defence that is more linebacker-focused. You’re trying to create a scenario where you have options. I’m not sure we have enough right now.”
It seems to me it is getting kind of late to be unsure of the Defensive Philosophy. Gawdddddd

Well let's try a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. See if something works. LOL

Did anyone drain the swamp? Oooops, we're up to our butts in alligators. Ha ha

Is such joking and teasing too hard for some fans? Too negative? Well, after a couple of poor seasons, there might be some cause for concern. Sorry ...

Is the sky falling? Nah ... Should we just put our heads in the sand and hope for the best? Nah ... But we do keep a watchful eye on our team.

And even for me, hope does spring eternal.

The Grey Cup is here this year, right? Is Wally taking that seriously? I want to be there watching the Lions warming up before Grey Cup, game time. Hopefully against our owners other team. C'mon Wally.

Etcheverry might be a solid guess. I had heard a while back the replacement was still under contract with another CFL team and the announcement wouldn't be made until June 1.

Benevides did offer this in his Twitter Q and A back in April. Also sounds like Joe Henderson might be back in a starter's role in the 30 defence.
Q: Mike, is the team close to naming its defensive line coach to replace Rich Stubler?

A: Yes, we have our man. A club announcement will be forthcoming.

Q: Wondering if you have plans for players like Joe Henderson to have a bigger role in 2011, now that he has one season under his belt.

A: As a rookie last year, Joe had a tremendous start and then tailed off as the season went on. In 2011, he will come to camp with a distinct role as a speed athlete that can attack the quarterback.

Guest Coaches announced:

No Dline coach as of yet, tbh they probably could use a linebacking coach as well imho.

I had heard this as well....so I was kinda wondering what the consternation was all about........it's not often the team/league comes right out and says something, seemingly prefering to leave fans as uninformed as possible.....but in this case, the June 1st date was specified some time ago.......and yes, Etchevery sounds like a good guess.

BTW, do you think the league will make an "official" announcement about the 2 injured veterans exemption for TC?.......sheesh, what am I thinking?......the league doesn't have enough respect for fans to get off their a$$es and do the right thing.

Probably last week soon in fact, Randy Melvin has been named as the Lions were heading to Rookie Camp.
