Watkins stock started rising around December and never stopped. He was a projected 4th rounder then.

Cherry can be an idiot, but he does recognize some of that great Canadian character.

Danny Watkins will have to be a movie someday.

I would like to see the media coverage of when he took his firefighter buddies to the 911 site to pay their respects.

Philly is just about the per-fect fit for him. Andy Reid knows how to build an O Line. The Patriots and Steelers would have been good too.

I saw TSN do a story on that. It was a nice piece. Watkins should do great in Philly....

Congratulations to to Watkins. He looks like a person of great character who will represent Canada well in the NFL.

Dan Dorazio had him pegged as a great prospect with a great body. Too bad for the Lions that NFL scouts came to the same conclusion since the Lions drafted him. Maybe Wally can offer him a Bret Anderson-type flexible schedule so he can play in the CFL while still working as a firefighter.

Yes - congrats to Danny Watkins - good luck on an NFL career = $$$.

And now, on this topic - introducing the all-time BC Lions all draft pick O-Line: Tony Mandarich, Ian Beckles, Greg Lotysz/Richard Mercier (tie from 99)), Brett Romberg and newest member, Mr. Watkins - with a combined zero CFL games played, but plenty o' NFL cash to be stashed; i'm thinking Phil Blake or Tyler Holmes could be added to this roster after this year's draft? :yahoo: :roar: :bang:

Listened to Watkins on the Team 1040 this morning, Im sorry but its pretty sad that he turns his back on grass roots football in kelowna that played a major role ion getting him started playing football.

When I listened to his press conference in Philadelphia and he said there is no football in Kelowna, that was frustrating enough.

Danny Watkins unfortunately forgot that two members of the Okanagan Sun (Mac Wynsouw & Reed Alexander), his good friends talked him into giving football with the Okanagan Sun a shot when he was 22.

He didn't think he could play, they twisted his arm and told him how good he could be

He got sick so couldn't play that year, but he spent the entire season practicing with the Sun and was named its most popular player by his teammates that year.

At the year end banquet he couldn't say enough things about offensive line coach Paul carson and how much he had taught him

He also forgets he didn't go to Butte for firefighting specifically.

The Okanagan Sun told the coaches there about him and sent him there as many of our players have gone there over the years.

Unfortunate Danny forgets what REALLY started him on his football journey.

His skill and work is to be saluted, but the facts of how it began have been twisted drastically

I heard the interview Dieter and have read many articles, and the Okanagan Sun seems to be conspicuously absent from his storyline. Not sure if he propagated the myth that football started at Butte college (where he was "discovered"), but that's the widely held belief and maybe that makes better copy. Sad though that your organization, which was instrumental in him discovering football, is not on the map.
